Pruning Styles?

I'm in my first ever round of growing and while chatting with a friend yesterday, they told me about something called Low Stalk Training (I think?)? Pretty much they told me that while the stalk it sill supple you bend and pin it so that the plant shrubs out more instead of growing tall and this supposedly makes it have more bud and keeps it short? Could someone maybe explain this better to me? I'm growing in an Aerogarden, so if there's a way to keep them small while producing just as much, if not more bud, share? What other types of pruning can I do to best utilize my limited space and plants?

Use the advanced search at the top of your page. This has been a very popular topic over the years, I'm sure you'll find everything you need there.

your looking for LST or Low Stress Training. try a search and get more info. there are a few different styles and techniques people do to tie over their girls. also not shown in the pic is opposite the first bend, you tie just above the soil and tie off to the the otherside as a counter measure so it doesnt pull the plant out of the pot.
after a few weeks or so you can try to untie all the strings and the plant will stay in that shape. if the ties stay there too long the stalk will start to grow around the string.

Okay, I did a search and it seems that all the pruning posts don't have a lot of answers for what I'm looking for...What does FIM mean? How do I do it? Are there any pruning tutorial threads that maybe I just can't find?
