Hey!

So, what exactly causes a plant to have purple leaves or bud? Would it be the strain? Or I've also he heard the leaves may be purple due to a phosphorus Deficiency.

Both! Purple coloring may be induced in flowering plants by lowering their nighttime temperatures, plants with the genetic disposition show much more color change.

There was an entry in the emerald cup this last year that was so close to a dark red I had to stare at it for some time to convince myself it was cannabis.

The deficiency will present a little differently then true genetic coloration. Sometimes novice growers mistake genetic purple coloration for deficiencies.

Some plants just have purple colored stems.
