You Can Post In This Grow Journal.
If it's anything stupid that distracts, i'll just delete it. ;) If you have comments/suggestions, feel free.

Without your input, I might miss something. Sustainability means tapping the resources all around you.

*****

I have two current bagseed plants at 9 and 10 weeks of age, and are on day 4 of flowering.

The Glorious White

This journal is for The Glorious White Widow that I germinated starting on the 7th of December.

Vegetative:

On the vegetative side, I have a 30gal tub set up with 2 pieces of styrofoam with holes cut out to fit 3" netpots. I plan on running pvc drip irrigation once i get the payola, but for now the seedlings are in 1" rockwool cubes treated with 90ppm GH trio with one drop of SuperThrive in a mixing bowl, adjusted to 5.5 and absorbed into the rockwool. Placed in ziploc bags, I can move them between the veg and flowering room to get some extra lumens during the 12/12.

The veg light setup is currently 2x 40w tube 4100k, 2x 40w tube 6000k, with reflective insulation inappropriately (needs to be moved closer) placed. Unit is on triple pulley single cable to chain setup.

Flowering:

I am running a 430w Phillips SonAgro bulb in a HydroFarm Daystar reflector powered by a Lumatek Ballast on the flowering side, which is currently housing the two bagseeds, oG (Original Ganja) and #2 (Deuce). The plants are in 10" flowering pots with holes drilled in the bottom, held 1" immersed into the rez by a pvc rack. For irrigation I have a 500gph pump delivering a stream of nutewater to the base of the plants at 6am and 6pm for 15 minutes.

Ventilation:

For the ventilation I have a 914cfm dust collector attached to dryer ducting and a ford f150 air filter for the intake, and a homemade activated carbon filter for the exhaust, which is released into the basement on the other side of the growroom. It is set to come on every 1.5 hours for 15 minutes, with no ventilation during sleeping hours. I have an extremely good air filter in my furnace, with 4 sheets of Gain fabric softener sheets in Apple Mango Tango.

I also have a 12" oscillating fan for leaf movement.

Nutrients:

I am using General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Flora Micro, and Flora Bloom... FoxFarm GrowBig, and SuperThrive as additives.

Water:

I try to use rain water when I can collect it, but pretty much have to rely on tap water. I change it every weekend to ensure high water quality. The rez are both unheated and I am sure that it is like 50 degrees. I broke my thermo so I cant tell. I am going to purchase a fishtank heater and keep them around 66-68. I havent experienced any algae or water problems because I am vigilant. I clean everything every change, with diluted bleach to kill off anything that might be harmful. airlines, tubs, pvc, air stones, etc.

I gently spray foliage whenever I feel the tingle.

So on with the journal!

December 07, 2009:

-Selected two seeds from package sent from Nirvana, and placed in damp towel, placed ina ziploc bag and then under the bathroom sink.

December 09, 2009:

-Opened bag to find that one has sprouted completely out of the seed and has nice little hairs on the root, and yellow leaves. Other had cracked with the very tip of the taproot showing.

-As previously stated, placed into 1" rockwool cubes treated with 90ppm GH trio with one drop of SuperThrive in a mixing bowl, adjusted to 5.5 and absorbed into the rockwool.

-Placed plants under 160w fluorescent lights on 24/7. When plants grow 2" tall, light will be supplemented with 184w CFL, 92w per side, for a total of 344w Fluoro.

Decided that in a few paychecks I will upgrade lighting to another Lumatek ballast and a Daystar hood with a HydroFarms metal halide with red spectrum added.

December 10, 2009:

-Checked plants for moisture level and watered with condensation inside bag. Seedling is 1/2" tall and other has not breached surface of cube.

-Positioned plants in flowering room to receive a little HPS before moving back to gentle fluorescents, to simulate mid-day summer sun.

-Positioned plants back, so they do not get light burnt.

-The WW seedling is looking great, like a seedling.

-The other seed has not sprouted, but the seed casing is moving toward the surface of the rockwool, indicating the root is pushing it upwards.

December 14, 2009:

-Modified two McDonald's Large Sweet Tea foam cups into micro bubblers. 3" atrium drain net-pots sit in the lid, while a 10gal air pump supplies air to 1" air stones in each cup. I also cut the 1.5" bottom portion of a 16oz water bottle to act as a greenhouse ceiling or whatever.

-
G2 and G4 have responded well.Water is .5" from bottom of net pot and G2 is developing a deep taproot with another of equal size on one side. G4 is still behind by about 3 days growth perhaps.

I put up the rest of the black plastic sheeting and I am satisfied with the darkness level. Dutch Masters Penetrator and liquid light incoming.

-G2 has really fattened up in the first two pointy leaves, and the next smaller set are growing quickly. Nice level of green, with little white spheres on the little hairs. She looks quite nice.

-G4 is still behind in growth, and based on G2 is 2 days behind. With that in mind, she looks good. There was a little light burn as I forgot to take into account the new seedling could be adversely affected by sudden prolonged exposure to a 430w HPS 18" away. It dawned on me no longer than 10 minutes later, and I immediately pulled them out of the HID room. They had light stress sure enough, but that's alright, they need to get started adjusting to withstanding my abuse.

-The pH was at 7.1 today, which I knew I needed to check in such small containers. However, I had to travel half the damn country the last few days. Its like DAMN already time for a change? So I checked their unused rez for pH: 5.9 so adjusted to 5.7 with 2tbsp Diluted Sulfuric acid, then filled the cups with said rez water.

-Added small notches in the cups so the air bubblers stayed at the bottom of the cups. Superthrive is so wonderful. I spray the roots before putting the net pots back in, then give the small leaves a little misting and back under the lights they go. Touching the 6500k 40w tube fluoro. Flos are absolutely great for the little ones.

-Once I see the roots start peeking out the bottom of the netpots at all, im going to add them to 5" netpots in hydroton while still remaining in the current netpot. Mostly due to economy. why not. It is already home, and causes no stress to add to a bigger area of hydroton.

-Heh, listen to me, I sound like I know what im doing. /shuffle

-G2 showed signs of pH fluctuation change, one side leaf curled a little and both plants have slight yellowing. Put them in the HPS room to get 30 mins of HID. Havent checked pH yet but sprayed the foliage and am going to let hem have some "mid day sun."

23, 2009:

-G2 needed half of each original sun leaf removed due to necrotic cells. It weeped a little brown liquid, but after a day and a half has been looking fine. I had watered the plant too much; the rockwool was staying cold and wet, and the plant showed signs of stress. I have since bought a 100watt submersible aquarium heater for each rez, and now temperature is 72-78.

-Both G2 and G4 have been placed in HPS bloom room to get 430w of SonAgro. I am inducing the flowering plants into an extra veg state since I am about to repot them late in the grow. So, for the time being, G2/4 are getting 24 hours of HPS at least for a few more days.

-Both G2 and G4 have been knocked over twice out of their pots. GF trompled all my wires and knocked one off the shelf, and then I repeatedly dumped em the rest of the times since I was high. Roots have been looking good though =)

-Growth, though slowed due to root stress, water temp, and nutrient deficiency, has improved since protective measures have been applied. Both are in 5" netpots hanging on a chain 18" diagonally from the HPS with reflective insulation under the plants. Airflow is behind plants so roots will be exposed to free-flowing air.

-Space heater placed in grow area to improve temperature. Feels about 80. Feels a little dry, but thats fine for now.

-Plants have gotten 1 misting of Dutch Masters Penetrator and Liquid Light, General Hydroponics FloraMicro, and Superthrive mixture. Going to give three mistings a day instead of two while drying out the roots; the intent is to give nutrients to leaves, which will be getting higher amounts due to the Penetrator agent, than the roots will, because they will be dangling in dry hydroton. Once plant looks a little better, back in the tank it goes.

-I enjoy the simplicity of deep water culture, and it is easy to maintain due to larger (20-30 gallons) bodies of water. Unfortunately, mixing the amounts of nutrients is ridiculous, and I have already depleted a bottle of my GH trio. 3 tsp per gallon is one tablespoon per gallon. 20 tablespoons is 10 ounces. (screw using kitchen measurements. Ounces! Everything ounces damnit! Its WEED.) Every week I have to change my 15-20 gallon rez. I usually start with 20 and it wanes to 15 til I fill it back up. GH Nutrient recommendation is:

-G2 and G4 are now in critical condition. The methods used above must be taken with caution as dramatic results can occur quickly. I had checked each plant's moisture level, and they were still kindof soaked. I added strong air circulation (too much), HPS lighting at a distance of 16" (too close), and let the water level get too dry too quickly (not enough). The combination of all this asshattery led to the near death of both plants within a little over 14 hours.

-Very disappointed in myself, I got too bigheaded thinking I had the setup just right, that I could go from tub V to tub B. However, It looks like the very best method is to let the little ones grow completely seperate of the entire setup. Because of this, I can still use an updated version of my first grow lights. I have added 6 Y-socket adapters to the 3-socket lighting fixture. This configuration produces 312 watts of CFL at 20,700 lumens. Nursery box will be a 15 gallon plastic bucket, lined with reflective insulation and modified to accept two 3-socket light fixtures on the interior. Top will be covered with clear plastic and bungee'd. I expect the heat to be retained and have designed convenient computer fan air supply and return locations to mitigate or retain as desired. I check plants three times a day for about 5-15 minutes, so I have decided I am going to purchase a small submersible pump, fit airline tubing to a t-fitting and simply run the pump from a portable reservoir while im messing with the other plants, and turn it off when im finished. This ensures that I have to pay individual attention to seedlings/cuttings instead of automating that process, and gives the advantage of portability of the entire Nursery system. This way I can use the original closet space as the nursery. Heat in a closet is easier to control than that of a basement. Each time I make an error, I try to establish redundancy features to mitigate risk of the error reoccurring, so these are a few of those measures.

-I expect the plants NOT to recover, but I cannot cut them because they cost money and are still green; even if they are shriveled, yellow/brown, and crunchy, plants are known to kick right back in once the environment has been reset to suit it's immediate needs. Less Light, More Water, Less Nutes for a few days, and to not be fucked with too much. I have a feeling they will be right back up within 3 days though.

-EDIT as I am thinking about it, I think the high air circulation and heater in the grow area used the Hydroton as a wick to very quickly strip the water away from the plant through the roots, which caused the plant vegetative surface to shrivel. The closest leaves on either plant look like they are still ok, but if they had experienced a few more hours they would have been done for.

-Told you, my plants needed to get ready for some abuse from the get-go. Being that these plants are so important to me, im sure there are more interesting trials and tribulations ahead. I just know this house is going to be lacking electricity soon. I am putting money on the worst January/February that we have seen in a long while. So i am already thinking about how to prevent destruction from this anomaly.

NOT PLANT RELATED. NEED TO RANT AND I DONT WANT TO POST A NEW THREAD ELSEWHERE.

-On the upper hand, we are close to rebellion here in the united states, and I am privy to more information than most. More people are on low-income food assistance than ever before, and that number is growing by 20,000 people a day. Some recipients include illegal/legal aliens, U.S. Armed Forces Service members, and even some people who need Supplemental Nutritional Assistance (Program) - SNAP. (food stamps) [not same as EBT]

We are now at a point where, after the Clinton Administration saved $7billion by reducing the amount of people who were on the program to 17.2million from 26.6million by 2000, we have sharply increased those numbers. As of February 2009, SNAP served "32.6 million people, at a cost of $39.7bn by my calculations -- an all-time record." Thats a jump of 15.4Million people!

Lets look at hard numbers for example, in the SNAP Program which is just one of many. Im going to try and break it down while high...
In 1970 4.3million people were using the food stamp program , at a cost of $577million, under the Nixon administration according to www.fns.usda.gov. Nixon was too involved in the nuclear disarmament and other scandals to worry too much about the program. In 1975, with the end of the Vietnam War and the waves of impoverished, shell-shocked, and wounded soldiers it sent back to not give a shit about increased the number of people who received food stamps to 17.1million people at a cost of $4.6billion. Keep in mind, "Expansion of the program occurred most dramatically after 1974, when Congress required all States to offer food stamps to low-income households." -USDA. It seems Congress was aware that the soldiers coming home might not be able to fit into society and had been involuntarily put through hell, then forced to quit fighting a war they had fought so hard to win. Right at the cusp of victory, Nixon had already had his balls in a vice for two years, and folded under public pressure. Well... that created a LOT of pissed-off, physically and psychologically wounded soldiers with an Anti-U.S. Government sentiment.

How might one best control those types of people? Offer them assistance, get them placated in their government provided housing, keep em fat with government provided food, and give them the opportunity to barely scrape by without having to work.

We have a huge problem right now, and it is spiraling out of control. SafeLink, is yet another government sponsored program that has been offered to people since the Reagan Administration's time -- to ensure everyone can at least afford or receive free a phone to be able to connect to employers, emergency services, etc. However, though most likely created in earnest, with the innovation of cell phones and their link to social status, this is yet another reason to think:

"Why try and find a decent job, or apply myself and attempt to educate and improve myself? If I cannot find a job, I can receive up to $1200/mo in food, Government reduced or waived Car Insurance, $400-$2800+ per month in assistance depending on number of dependents and other factors, and a cool cell phone with free service? I have everything I need!"

By governmental Socialist intervention, we are becoming a state that cannot psychologically break the umbilical cord. The government has these people by the balls, and for as long as money goes into these "useless eater" pits, they will be satiated. However, take away the phone, take away the insurance, take away the monetary assistance and it will become uncomfortable. Unemployment will decrease, because people will be FORCED off their asses. Instead of sitting and doing nothing, sucking like a mosquito on my money's ass, Americans will get back to that good old American Ingenuity of the Golden Era. With less government regulation, the people will be free to innovate. There will be more people selling their better, small scale produced items. Small business growth would increase due to the larger amount of unskilled workers in the market. There will be more money flowing and more demand for better products that are affordable, durable, and are a bargain.

But take away the free food, and those people get hungry. Within weeks, you could have a French Revolution. Marie Antoinette's journalistic cliche "Let them eat cake" (which there is no evidence she ever said this) is a euphemism for her arrogant attitude. Let em have some cake... next you know its off with your head.

Bush had a final approval rating of 22%; had he not increased the amount of people who depend (and therefore tend to be more "patriotic" so they turn a blind eye on the gov's actions) on government assistance by 11.2million to 28.4million, his final approval might have only been 10.5%.

But would that have made a difference?

We need to end all these socialist programs that have been proven not to work and have been discouraged by our founding fathers. We certainly need to bring an end to this currently (for lack of better words) increasing "Neo-Fascist Federalist Authoritarian trend."

GET THE FUCK UP.

GET THE FUCK UP.

Objectively concealing my identity is wise, so I cannot give you any examples of the work I have done for my pro-humanity agenda. I talk with local politicians and community organizers and I am now in the works of writing up a business plan for a "minimally profitable" small business. This might sound odd, and without giving much info about my plans, it is basically to create a business that fills a market need, is ecologically and economically sustainable, pays itself off, and considers the first portion of profits as employee's earnings, and that comes out first, to ensure a fair living wage above poverty level. If we dont make profit, then that sucks but as long as profit increases, a merit based system will ensure excellent performers are paid for the work they do. Waste materials will be used in many ways including community projects and donations. In an effort to do our part to push solar energies, we will be investing in solar technologies which will pay themselves off in 2-6 years, (after which we will upgrade for every 20% industry efficiency increases to the most efficient model [Current industry high: 40% efficiency with 1000x concentrated light systems]) and then the used panels will be donated to local communities, or set up on a minimal-cost fee based system, so that say, ONLY the cost of maintenance and paying a guy to do maintenance work on the array will be passed on to consumers. So lets say in dreamland that we donate a 40,000watt array. That would generously provide electricity to 10 houses. Or, it could provide enough electricity for emergency heating/cooling to 40 houses. If the maintenance pool increases due to high efficiency, at intervals money will go back into investments in small-scale expansion.

By creating a small business that provides free community based services with profit resources and is tightly knit within a community, that business will have a dedicated local consumer base who will always be interested in buying the local product because it is of a higher quality and lower cost, AND made in America by a company that uses these profits to benefit both the company and the local community symbiotically.

Damn. im tired of typing. I know that had nothing to do with my white widow plants but I wanted to put that in here instead of on a political thread. ;) its my journal.

And now back to what started me on this whole thing lol... Several global corporations and banksters have our economic balls in the vice. They have already bailed out some of the larger coporations and banks, while trimming the excess fat. We are still careening down the slope, picking up speed, and with the Swine Flu Engineered by Baxter and released in Europe February 2009 -- allowed to fester and bubble til it Rocked around the world in October, scaring the bejeesus out of everyone, while I try to tell everyone they are fine unless they get the shot. Then they get sick. While I, having been exposed to bird/swine flu many times does not get the shot and i do not get the sniffles. So anyway, since you dont hear about swine flu anymore, the next distraction has been the Health Care bill. This was designed most likely to get the Insurance companies their bailout and set their future money siphons.

This is all great news as far as marijuana goes! Since they are going to pass the health care bill no matter if 99.6% of the population opposes it, the Healthcare industry and big pharma will be covered by clauses in the lexicon. So, since they are guaranteed their portion of my money even though I dont take medicines, they are going to relax the stranglehold they have on marijuana legislation. I already know of pro-hemp and pro-marijuana advocacy groups who are working to educate local politicians and so long as you do everything locally, it has been very successful. We are very close to nearly nationwide decriminalization.

A lot of the problem is people who are deeply conservative as far as their religion goes, they will still be against marijuana. A lot of the time the reason is because they believe it says not to smoke weed in the bible which is a myth. Some claim, "Give unto Caesar that which is his," and misinterpret that as meaning since it is law it is immoral. Well, does rescinding the law and decriminalizing God's plant then make it not morally subjective, and therefore OK to consume? Hard-liners believe the bible teaches to be strictly teetotal. In any case, a logical questioning sequence allows the opponent to make their own decision with real, well-researched and prepared non-propaganda information. I get a lot of "It is bad for you and theres studies to prove it." So I ask them to prove it. When they dont produce evidence, I show them empirical evidence, complete with data that there have been well over 50,000 documented cases, including GOVERNMENT FUNDED STUDIES that prove that:

"Marijuana has no significant impact on physical or mental health care utilization, health-related quality of life, or current socio-demographic characteristics."
Eisen SE et al. Does Marijuana Use Have Residual Adverse Effects on Self-Reported Health Measures, Socio-Demographics or Quality of Life? A Monozygotic Co-Twin Control Study in Men. Addiction. Vol. 97 No. 9. p.1083-1086. Sept.
1997

Marijuana has medical Value, as proven in California and Colorado, states which have decriminalized marijuana and established regulation thereof. Since 1996, it has shown evidence and proof of it's countless uses and ability to heal, calm psychosis, stimulate creativity, stimulate appetite, and numb pain among others.

"this federally funded study suggests, some people simply have an underlying propensity to try drugs, and start with what's most readily available"
Morral AR, McCaffrey D and Paddock S. Reassessing the Marijuana Gateway Effect. Addiction. December 2002. p. 1493-1504.

In a massive study of California HMO members, it was found that no amount of use had any affect on mortality rate.
Sidney, S et al. Marijuana Use and Mortality. American Journal of Public Health. Vol. 87 No. 4, April 1997. p. 585-590. Sept. 2002.

Marijuana Might actually prevent cancer, it has been shown to shrink tumors in mice.
Munson, AE et al. Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids. Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Sept. 1975. p. 597-602.

There is no proof prohibition lowers drug use. But lots of proof it costs money.
National Research Council. Informing America's Policy on Illegal Drugs: What We Don't Know Keeps Hurting Us. National Academy Press, 2001. p. 193.

Ahh now I feel better.
