i have an odd sized closet that i am growing in and i don't have room to hang the inline fan/carbon filter above my light (fgi square 3) but i have a shelf above the light (around 6 feet from the floor), would it be possible to put the inline fan on the shelf?

I am thinking if that's the only place then you have to make due. From the shelf can you then run the intake vent line up to where the heat rises? You may have to put it on rubber pads to keep noise down.

Are you concerned about noise? If so maybe a speed controller. But I had only used inline fans to exhaust heat, I was never too concerned about carbon where I grow. so maybe others would have more for you regarding this.

i am not super worried about noise. i have bought an ACI inline fan and carbon filter that came with the controller 69. i am mainly looking for advice on setup and i have no prior experience setting up ducting.

I used flexible foil type I think it was slightly insulated made to use with this type of setup can be as simple as that. Came in a box say 25' long and you cut to size but you may need some tool to chop the spring steel coil. I used wire cutters fairly heavy duty ones. Might come with the clamps, need at least 3 clamps. For the exit hole I got a sheet metal tapered duct adapter at Lowes to exit the wall
