question about light leakage DWC

hi guys,

i have been wondering this for a long time....i try my best to seal off any light leaks into my DWC.

what i am wondering is....when i take my lids off to check the ph balance...it sometimes takes me 3-4 mins to get everything all set.

during that 3-4 minutes my DWC container is sitting underneath the light...will this become a problem???....how should i handle these transactions??

also, this brings me to another light leakage question...when i put some plants into the bud cycle her in the next few days...how critical is it not to have any light during the 12 hr off cycle....is opening the door momentarily and exposing the sleeping beauties to second hand light bad?...just how critical are these issues?

other than that...things are finally going great!!! i have white roots, and they are looking beautiful!!....i have added some pics for your viewing pleasure...for all of the advice i receive on this forum....i am truly thankful!!

1 more question....when i check the PH...i also check the PPM.....it never seems to change much...is it supposed to?? ...will it??

To avoid allowing lights to your roots, use a specific container to put the plant and root mass in while you change the rez... Unfortunately, it's not very economical to buy another cooler just for this purpose, so maybe just a regular old 5 gal black bucket will work -- assuming the root mass fits in it. Also, with my current experience, I learned that my plants hermied very easily (bag seed). Once the plants go in their 12 hours of darkness, they like to stay that way until sunshine! A work around for this is to use green incandescent light bulbs if you want to go into the grow room at night. Be sure you purchase the lightbulbs with green glass, not just painted green. Also, would you mind getting back to me in your DWC 2.0 post regarding how you modified the lids of those team jugs? =P

ill post some pics..and a description 4 u 2morrow...but i used a razor knife 2 cut off the top of the lid, then i turned it over, measured to the center ( i think 5 5/8 inch) and used a compass to draw out a nice circle...ill post a better description 2morrow, i gotta get 2 bed....thanks 4 your input
