Question about seed imports

Okay, suppose you order a few seeds from europe into the US and the feds did decide to make an issue of it. Is there a charge for bringing the seeds into US, and if so what is the penalty? Or is their only recourse to let you take possessioin of the package and bust you for possession? Maybe a dumb question, but I'm curious to know, if anybody has the info.

in practice, customs gives you a form letter saying 'bad'
in a very few cases, there has been a few follow ups with customs working with local law enforcement
yet to see any federal involvement in small seed shipments, at least not on any news sites i follow

I know a very experienced grower who always buys his seeds from overseas. He says that usually one out of every 5 orders gets intercepted by customs, each time he only gets a letter telling him to stop.. I wouldnt worry to much about it :) Good luck! yah.. the only thing i have read of is getting a letter from customs saying that someone tried to send you contraband and if you would like to pick it up, you can go to such and such address and get it.. not a good idea.. other than that, i haven't heard of much happening.

Thanks, that's helpful. Also interested to know, legally, if there's a specific charge for bringing seeds in and if it's felony or what. Or would the feds just have to charge with possession. I know it's really unlikely to happen, but if anybody knows the law in this area that'd be cool.

viable cannabis seeds are illegal in the US to possess, not sure of the specifics, but in principle you could be charged with a federal offense
what the maximum penalty would be, i don't know
but if you want to pursue paranoia to its illogical end, think conspiracy charges
if you have seeds, you're probably planning to grow them, let's say a pound a plant
that's a multi year offense easy, and it's not impossible to occur, at least by the wording of the law
the reality is it won't happen, too much other shit is going down to keep federal resources busy
