Question about smell, please help!

I apologize if this is a dumb question or whatever, and I've been trying to figure this out myself with no luck, but what exactly is it that makes westcoast bud smell so good? I mean it doesn't matter if it's indoor or outdoor it has a very specific smell (and has that great "Cali" taste) and I was wondering if it is perhaps a common nutrient?

I also apologize if this is in the wrong section or if everybody thinks this is a stupid question or whatever. My bud really does smells GREAT and has a very dank, hydro smell, but only the faintest bit of the "Cali" taste and smell that I so crave.

Any ideas, or if anybody else knows what I mean about the "Cali" buds smell, are very welcome. Thanks!

Growing wonderful weed is all for naught if it isnt dried and CURED properly. It's the cure that brings out the nice aromas and flavors.

I fully agree, I'm getting a terrific dro smell.. but, think of the best Vietnamese BC bud and then think of some "Cali" mids. The Cali bud has a damn near distinguishable "West Coast" smell. Maybe I'm nuts?

Edit: I'm curing with Boveda packs and am getting A+ results..

Most of the popular commercial strain are crossed with some sour, kush or diesel which are very potent in the smell department. This is what the retail buyer demands. A lot of emphasis is placed on "bag appeal" and stank.

Drying and curing will help bring the most out of a particular strain but youre never going to get C99 to smell like sour d.

What strain are you growing?
