Question about Wardrobe and Sog

Hi all ..

Well 1st off let me just say im not a complete newbie lol , ive done 5 grows previously but im after some advice as im wanting to change up my grows.

Right well at the minute im growing in a homemade stealth wardrobe , its not very big !

Width - 1.2m
Depth - 0.7m
Hight - 1.6m

ive got a 250w HPS in a cool tube with fan and Carbon filter plus a 4inch and 6 inch set of PC fans that are bringing in cold air.
Temps are a steady 27 - 28 degress C.

I grow in soil.
Ive been using the area to grow 3 - 4 plants at a time and ive been getting 20g - 40g a plant.

What im wanting to know is would a small sea of green be better in this area ?
Say 10 - 15 6inch pots ??
what do you all think ?
Do you think if i did a sea of green in this area with this set up i could get 10 - 14g a plant ??
If not what do you think i could get ?

That sounds like a bitch to mess with. I would try new things to maximize the yield on your current amount of plants

What would be a bitch to mess with ? i think i could quite easily get 10 - 15 pots (6inch) in there and seeing as its a wardrobe / cabinet its easy to water ? alaborate please :)
 
does anyone have any suggestions ? i was thinking if i cud do 10 plants in a sea of green i could stagger 5 plants a month apart so theres a crop every 4 weeks ?

I'd rather water/feed 3-4 medium plants than 10-15 small ones, but to each their own. Sometimes you get down the road and you don't feed all the plants in the grow the same based on strain, pheno or what they need. You have the potential to be making lots of different small batches of feeding solution. I use a wardrobe as well, but I water and let drain in the sink or the bath tub. Just sounds like a lot of shuffle. Why not do SCROG or LST with 3-4 plants instead of using up a lot of seeds? How are you going to stagger growth phases if you only have 1 box? Do you have another box or are you doing 12/12 from seed? Bottom line, I don't know if you will yield more, but I think you are quadrupling your work. Food for thought...
 
Thank you for the reply :) I wouldnt be using seeds i have a mother plant i use at the minute to take cuttings from , i only use seeds to grow new strains of mother plants. i now get what ya mean with the feeding solution but i would be using the same strain not different ones, all my plants have there own catchtrays underneath for run off , i only use my plants in the bath when i do a full flush. ive done scrog before but its just so time consuming in veg and im after a quick turn around . Main reason for all this trouble is im running out of bud before my next crop is ready to chop and that defeats the whole point !
Any input on how to get a better yeild would be great ... also what do you think i should be getting roughly a plant using the 250w HPS and the cool tube ?
 
That depends on a lot of factors. Using bigger pots and vegging longer will help with yield. I ran 250w in a cool tube my last grow and the yield was average. I used a standard hps bulb. This one I am going to 400w and using a good bulb (hortilux), so that should help. But, you also have to look at the strain. I grew SLH, which is not a high yielder. I would try topping and some light LST if you haven't. In a wardrobe it's about getting the most of out of your light with not that many plants. You got a pic of your set up?
 
i have a wooden cab that i built, 1.2 m wide...........1 m deep............1.4 hi............ in it i run 1 x 400, 1 x 600 dual spec hps...the 400 has a euro reflector and the 600 has a diamond reflector........i have around 14 plants in there but 8 would be better, i run 12-12 from seed in coco, 10 litre pots mostly and pull 2-3 oz dry per plant, i have a 4 inch hi power and 5 inch low power inline fan pulling out air into the room the cabs in. id say the area is to big for a 250, couple of plants , lst, maybe 12-12 from seed in coco............or more light, bigger light
 
thanks alot to you both ! ill stick a pic up of my setup in a minute . i think im going to upgrade to a 400w HPS setup then when i have abit more funds. i was just worried that the 400w would get too hot ... i might have to invest in a faster flowing fan if the temps start to get hot. After reading dels 12-12 from seed post i might have a crack at that 4 seeds at a time ?!? decisions decisions lol
 
I would definitely go LST and then Scrog. 4 plants with an air cooled 250w HPS in a small area, I'm expecting 50-70g out of each plant.
 
The problem with SCROG is the extended veg time .. i could of done a crop by the time ive veg'd a scrog couldnt i ?

400 watts is good and 4 plants will be fine, 12-12 in coco,.........................get some big genetic seeds................will do you a treat
 
haha yeah saves tidying up :P

the pics are a nirvana Pure Power Plant (largest) , AK48 (2nd biggest) and Velvet Bud (smallest) . after this PPP has finished im gonna start my 12/12 mission :)

You mentioned that you were going to use 6 inch pots for your proposed grow... what size pots are you using for the 4 plants you have atm?

Hi LordWinter thanks for reading my thread :)

Ive got 3 plants at the minute not 4 and the pink pots are 8inch wide and 8 inch deep . The 6 inch pots i can get are round not square and each has its own catch tray .
 
Gotcha. I'm using rounds atm, so I have to ask... What made you go up a pot size instead of going with the rounds? Was it just the fit, or was the extra root space a consideration as well?
