why exactly do the buds fatten up near the end? i can understand them getting fat if they have seeds, but why does an un-pollinated bud get fat like that?
just been wondering this

so then how fat could i grow those buds, or how long of an approx time until the older buds are no good ?The plant is doing everything in its power to attract the pollen that it thinks it needs to reproduce through seeds. It knows that its reaching the end of its life cycle, so it wants to reproduce before it dies. The bigger the flower, the easier to collect some of that precious pollen it wants. If the plant were allowed to be pollinated, it would immediately stop making bud mass and switch to creating seeds. Since we don't allow it to be pollinated, it just keeps making bud until the day we chop it down.
That's why you need to know your strain's approximate flowering time. The plant will theoretically continue to produce bud, but the older stuff will quickly lose its potency, due to natural decay of the old tricomes. You want to harvest when 80-90% of the tricomes are brownish in color. That way, you'll know you've reached about the limit of what you can do with that particular plant.so then how fat could i grow those buds, or how long of an approx time until the older buds are no good ?
Forget what I said. The good Dr. said it much better than I.Alright so a good method for telling when you're plant is fully matured and ready to harvest is to watch you're triches. Trichomes are clear or trasparent when first developed. During flowering they will slowly turn a milky white, as it get closer to maturity the trichomes start to turn an amber color. Once 75% are turned amber then you're ready to harvest. You can also watch the hairs change from white to the mature color(red,orange,purple...). You will need to use a strong magnification usually atleast 60x to see the full body of the trichomes. I wouldn't recomment going more then a week or two over the natural harves't time becuase the risk of bud rot and molds aren't worth the chance of a slight gain in fruit. Hope this helps
By the way, I'm not trying to mock you, or make fun of you in any way, shape, or form. I'm just pointing out the irony of the obvious! First of all, you are asking us "why" a plant acts in a certain way.why exactly do the buds fatten up near the end? i can understand them getting fat if they have seeds, but why does an un-pollinated bud get fat like that?

What do you mean by, "I flush every time I water?" How exactly does that work?IMO the reason is that in the last few weeks folks start watering properly
You will hear everyone say they fatten up in the last few weeks but mostly during the flush
Why I flush every time I water
And My buds get HUGE
