Ok so I think this is worth sharing. I recently wanted to add a booster to the end of my cool tube to help it stay cooler. I already have my cool tube connected to a 190 CFM fan but wanted a more direct stream across my bulb. This is my solution. It is working flawlessly!!

Materials

  • HVAC Grade Duct Tape
  • You will need two 5" to 4" converters (6$ a piece) "Depending on your ventilation size" This example is based off of 4" ducting. Example of the adapters below. Stainless steel ones are recommended.

  • 4" desk fan, you can find these at Wal-mart for a cheap $7.00!

Procedure

First step is to break off the stand for the fan. I used a pair of bulky pliers, and after a few bends it simply broke off. Pretty durable if you ask me tho.

Second step is to take one of your adapters and place the fan in it. Like below.

Third step is to simply place the other adapter closing up the fan in between both. Then grab some duct tape and tape it up. If you do not like the idea of using duct tape then you can could use some other adhesives or clamps I suppose. Make sure it is totally sealed and make sure to seal the area where the cord comes out really well. You should now have a complete booster fan.

Final Product Connected to my cool tube (bake a round pyrex cool tube is also homemade)

These fans have switches on the back of them so you will have to turn it on before you totally close up your ducting. The switch is totally accessible otherwise. You can turn it on and off by unplugging and plugging in the power once it is fully enclosed in your ducting. You could also take apart the fan and add a switch but that would be a project and would most likely be hard to get it back together into its original cage it comes with. I literally made this in 30 seconds flat!! This was an addition to my cool tube to get a better air stream flowing across my light. I wouldn't recommend this as a exhaust replacement but it is an excellent booster and you can tell by the suction it creates! These fans are also pretty powerful that come from walmart and are made of STEEL!

Hope this helps

Much love
Peace
