quick watering question

Hey guys im new to this and all, but tell me if this makes sense. When watering in soil would it make sense to water around the edge of the pot compared to dumping the water right at the stem, so therefor the roots grow to the edge of the pots therefor establishing a lot bigger root base? Thanks

Water around most of the mass of the soil, don't water directly on the stem. Do it early in the light cycle and this will help reduce chances of powdery mildew.

Yeah water the whole surface area of the soil trying to avoid pouring it directly on the stem. Watering only around the edge could lead to creation of dry channels, where the soil loses its water retentive properties and this results in extra work to re-establish these properties (watering with surfactant and submerging the pot into water). If you create dry channels at the root-zone you can damage the delicate roots in that zone due to moisture stress.

jus dont give it alot of water. . . Leave longer times between watering. That will make the roots search for it resulting in faster growth for roots

I disagree here, always get 10-15% run off when watering, makes sure to leach off all salts and "plant poo" and not make the plant sit in it. But do let the soil dry. A $9 moisture meter for the soil is one of the best investments you can make in your grow. Wait till it drops below 5 or so, then water again. Lots of perilite in the soil goes a long ways too, i usually do 20-30% perilite to soil.

I water around the edge and work my way to the stem. also foiler feed them with regular water. with a good mister. One thing i dont understand people saying dont water the stem when in nature when it rains they get really wet. so dont be afraid to get the stem alittle wet.

In nature they have much better air flow to. Inside not paying attention to watering the stem encourages powdery mildew growth.
