Ratio of plants to wattage?

im wanting to get a new light and not sure of my exact needs. with the higher yields from HID im only looking to flower 2-4 plant at a time. my main concern is heat, im not in friendly state and power(cooling) is expensive, at least during the summer months. im thinking a 250 or 400w system...can anyone tell me if either would suffice? thanx....:leaf:
 
The 400 would be swell for running 5 plants or under. Heat will be a issue some but if you get a aircooled hood or cooltube,,youll be fine. Youll love the results too.
 
Definitely on the Cool tube! save you a lot of temp control bullshit later. I have fought heat through out my short time in the hobby. save yourself a lot of headaches he he

Do you have central air or window units?

It shouldnt appear as a red flag for one light. You could explain it away as a air conditioner or deep freezer or something.
 
Okay, so Ill start by saying that this question is about grow space and heat issues.
Im looking to put a lot of money to make this grow legit, and well profitable over time. Information you may want to know, Im going to be doing all autoflowering plants- Big Devil, Lowryder #2, and AK48.

I have a metal storage cabinet to use, its 3ftx1.5ft.
I want to use a 400 or 600 watt HPS. Id like to use the 600watt :weed:.
Now, I know thats a problem.:!:
I did the calculations for lumens per square foot (listed at bottom,) but with it only being 1'.5'' in width, I fear it will overheat. My plans are to have (3) 255CFM fans; 2 in, and one out. Will this be enough to ventilate the heat from a 400? A 600?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-P

Forgot to put the lumens, I'm such a pothead. hahaha


400watt HPS= 12,222 lumens p/sq. ft.
600watt HPS= 21,111 lumens p/sq. ft.
 
I can Only go by what I'v read (and seen from friends) but a 400W should be ok a 600 will deff have alot more heat problems, metal is a conducter after all but can take the heat (unfortunatly your plants don't) so deff a 200+CFM fan out (with scrubber I assume).
Also asked before, electricity shouldn't be a problem for 400w system at my current usage (0.06$/6 centsCan kw/h) it will only use 13$ a month for what I need mine for (12/12) That can EASILY be explained by either A/C or heat for the winter...

really???????

ok...so i see your new. ima cut ya some slack. what you just did there was called hijacking a thread. you need to start your own thread. go to the forum section and go to whichever forum catches your eye.
that being said it sounds like your gonna have yourself a nice grow....a little more info on the cabinet would be good. almost sounds as if that would be too much for so small a box.

Hey, man. I was looking for the fastest information, and this was a very active post. Sorry for any inconvenience?
 
My 400w is used for flowering and there is no real change in my electric bill AND the 6" inline fan that runs 24/7 right now doesn't seem to have affected it too much either. I'm going to add another 400w for Christmas. The space I have is 4' x 6' and the first 400w is lighting up 4' x 4' just fine. Can't wait to have (2)400w lights in that space. Right now I push it with six plants.

sounds like you and i have about the same growing area....4x6x8. you say youve got 6 under that 400, what kinda yield do you get per plant?
