Replanted A Used Pineapple...ITS GROWING!

My wife recently ate a pineapple, leaving the top 2 inches and leaves. I thought "what the hell" and threw it in some soil and have been watering. Nothing for like 3 weeks, but the leaves didnt die,(the ENDS did horribly but not the WHOLE leaf) so I kept watering.

Now it has 6 new leaves that are much larger than the original leaves on the plant. I cant believe it rooted straight into soil! Ill do this again when I get a digital camera and record the whole process, and include some advanced gardening techniques with it instead of just throwing it in a pot.

Im gonna try bubbleponics, rooting hormones, etc and see what kind of effects I can get.

Anyone know if this thing could grow into a tree? Or will it just make leaves?

If it is a female, it will start growing a ring of small pineapples around the lower crown of the vegetation.

No, if it is a female it will create a ring of many fruits.

Crap thats sweet, I had no Idea a refrigerated fruit that had been picked for god knows how long could take root.

I did the same thing last season with a pineapple top. I thought it died during winter, but it's been making a come back. I'll try and post a pic of it tomorrow. Good luck and happy gardening.

So by post a pic tomorrow I meant almost a week later.

Here's the pineapple top that's come back from the dead. I watered it before the pic was taken, and the white spots are the flash of the water. Cheers.

I hear that if you put the pineapple top into a small container with just water for 2 weeks. You can get much faster rooting before putting them it into the earth.
Just some food for thought... Or pineapples for thought i guess.
