Reserva Privada Kandy Kush grow/smoke report

Haven't gotten around to taking any pics yet, but I thought I'd give a little info on reserva privada's Kandy Kush

Kandy Kush grow report:
  • VERY lanky thin branches that will bend or break once the buds begin to pack on a bit of weight, it is necessary to use ties if not growing in a SCROG fashion
  • Highly pH sensitive in soil, likes its water to be either pH neutral or slightly acidic or it'll begin locking out cal/mag
  • The first time I grew out this strain I let it veg for about a month and a half which might of been slightly too long as I ended up with a 6ft monster of a plant with every one of its branches needing to be supported by ties. Second time I grew it out I let it veg for around 4 weeks in a SCROG and the plant seemed to fair far better.
  • Flowering took a LONG time. Around 12 weeks before it was at its peak point for harvest.
  • Grew exclusively in FFOF from start to finish and it seemed to work well
  • Yield: ended up with 3 ounces from my first run of it, and about 1.5 ounces per plant on my second run.
  • The pheno I got cloned very easily and I had a 100% success rate.
  • I'd suggest harvesting at around 20% amber trichs, seemed like the perfect high was around then.

Kandy Kush smoke report:

  • Visual appeal: 3/10... The pheno I ended up with had a rather unattractive dried product. When I first harvested, the buds seemed like they would end up being a nice dense finished product, although they were a bit of a bitch to trim, but after drying I found out that they were carrying more water weight than any strain I have ever grown. They ended up being EXTREMELY airy and leafy, I could literally see straight through the largest buds I had. Also there were very little visual trichs and it finished up with mostly white hairs. Not bud that looked very impressive to anyone who saw it.
  • Smell: 8/10... After around a month of curing the fruity smell really began to become strong, not as amazing as strains like blueberry but still very good.
  • High: 10/10... Had almost everyone who tried it tell me it was their favorite high of all time. An absolutely fantastic mix of both body and mind, won't lock you to a couch but you definitely won't want to be out exploring on this strain. Perfect for talking to friends, listening to music, or watching some netflix. Definitely gives you some mad munchies. Complete sense of utter euphoria. Would work great for anxiety/depression issues. Literally could not stop smiling if I tried on this strain!

In conclusion: The pheno of Reserva Privada's Kandy Kush I received wasn't the best yielder and definitely didn't produce the greatest looking buds but the high is where this strain truly shines and makes it stand out from the rest. I'd give it an overall score of 8/10. If only the buds were denser and less leafy it would probably be the holy grail of cannabis in my opinion.

Kandy kush is great plant, even Kandy kush skunk. But neither are great yielding. Both as you mentioned lanky bud filled branches best for scrog.

Nice write up. jimdandy on here speaks very highly of the Kandy Kush, I wonder if he had the same issues with bud structure. I know he mimicked your take on the lankiness and the high. Thanks for the review!

That's too bad. I grew some RP-Kandy Kush and it has been some of the best herb ever.
Yeah definitely loved the high from this strain, I guess I must of just got a strange pheno bud density wise... I might have to get a few more seeds and give it another shot in the near future.

The Kandy Kush I grew was very similar although it was finished at 10.5 weeks. Everyone loved it regardless of what it looked like though! Try the Kosher Kush for buds with some density.:peace:
Yep I agree! Not one person who tried it didn't love it! I was actually thinking about their kosher kush for a future grow so thanks for leaning me more toward it!

I recently ran Kosher Kush, Holy Grail Kush, Kandy Kush, Skywalker Kush, OG18, Sour Kush and RP's OG Kush for comparison, all in the same organic soil, medium fertility. They gave me no nute or PH troubles at any stage. They are all sensitive to light leaks and will herm on you at 2-3 weeks in the lower bud sites. The few I saw I just plucked them off when I was cleaning out the underbrush. (Very slight light leaks due to flip flop.)

The Kosher and Holy looked very similar, both with dense round buds. The HGK stank more but neither had very impressive frosting. That said, this weed would be considered awesome by most smokers I know. The HGK was a low yielder and brittle, it kept tearing itself apart around week 7. Most of the time I am too lazy to stake them or tie them up.

The Skywalker was very dank, icy, dense, potent and popular but also brittle.

The O18 was awesome, very dense, very OG stanky potent icy buds.

The RP OG was the slowest (~9.5 weeks?) unimpressive yield. The dankness and potency was there. The flavor was top notch chemmy OG.

The Sour Kush was awesome in every way except yield. It was the strongest dank smelling and it had staying power in the jar. Nice hard icy nugs with massive fuel. Brittle branches.

And finally the Kandy Kush. This was the keeper for me. Decent yield, tons of frosting, very strong OG funk with fuel and a slight bit of cheese. True the nugs were not as hard as the O18 but they weren't fluffy by any means either.

What about Sour Diesel (RP) ? Is it any good?

I have DNA Kosher Kush on the way.
A few publications have this on the top ten strongest strains list.
I have a six-pack of fems coming.
My first Kush plant was DNA 91 Krypt and I liked it, so I'm going to give another Kush plant a try.
I've been growing sativas and sativa dom hybrids for the past couple years.
I have also grown the DNA Sleestack X SK1 and it was an awesome sativa dom hybrid.
Lets see what this strong indica comes out like.

I grow the Kosher and it is a great finished product and it IS super potent. Strong, warm body stone. It doesn't mess with my mind too much. It is a very stretchy grower with thin stems. It grows like a vine and topping is recommended. The buds are dense with resin, smell absolutely terrific and are an easy trim. Nice density to them as well. Good luck with it. I have a review in my sig if you're interested. Cheers.

I grew a kandy kush..excellent plant and smoke. Mine had a coffee spicy fascinating smell and yielded pretty well for me..just over 3 oz of bud. Is not pretty to look at though. The way my buds formed looked good while growing but not so in the jar. It looks like homeless people slept on itDSC00317.jpg

For whatever reason I haven't RP SD but I would like to. And to be fair regarding Kosher Kush I didn't do any selection so I'm sure you can go through a pack and find something better than what I had.

People want stuff that will get them where they want to go. I've had people complain about lack of density only to come back begging for more. Just because people are ignorant. The last point about drying... not really a point as your gear should never smell like hay if you're drying it properly. It will dry out more quickly if you let it though... yes.

I still prefer to have nice dense buds personally. People will choose the dense looking weed over the fluffy stuff 9 times out of 10 even if you tell them the fluffy stuff is better. With a humidity of 16 percent and a temperature of around 75-80 degrees on most days where I live, its quite difficult to get a nice slow dry even with a humidifier. This is why I rely on a nice long cure to really bring out the aromas and flavor.

I ran a single fem seed of DNA RP Kandy. Our final yield was 14.5 oz. This was in an urdwc system with 5 other plants. Minimal training was performed on the plant. BPN 2 part nutrient. 10-11 weeks flower. 2000 watt hps. Buds were very open and sparse(foxtailed) but dense, but it shot branches everywhere. It was around 3-3.5 feet wide and 3 - 3.5 feet tall

I changed my res system to shorter wider buckets and have a clone of this plant running now. The plant is about 1.5 feet taller than the original. All of my plants grow large though. Had a darkstar pulled at the same time at 12 oz untrained.
