RIP Vin Scully

I grew up listening to this man. Scully was the Dodgers' main broadcaster from 1950 when they played in Brooklyn all the way until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 88. His association with the Dodgers is the longest by a broadcaster in the history of sports - he called games for both Jackie Robinson and Corey Seager

Vin's counterpart in Pittsburgh was Bob Prince for the 1st 25 years of Vin's career.

Prince would always mention a couple things during his broadcasts. The other play by play announcer by name and the umpires by name.

We always knew when Vin was in town and we always knew the name of the umpire who made a bad call.

In the old days during rain delays and long before doppler radar (that the Cali people probably wouldn't know, lol), they didn't cut away like they do today. Prince would stay on air and fill time often by getting the other play by play announcer on for a few minutes to BS. So we heard all the other announcers over the years.

Prince, still the 'Voice of the Pirates' if you're of a certain age always called Vin the best play by play announcer.
We would take transistor radios to Forbes Field in the 1960s. So many people had them that you could hear the broadcasts sitting in the seats. And everybody listened at home to those games on the porch. You could drive your bike around town and hear those games fade in and out and in again just riding past houses. You always knew who was winning and Dodger and Giant games were the best. Unless Koufax or Marichal was pitching...

Vin remained a throw back to those old days for 67 years and I miss that one man in the booth radio broadcast style...
