river rocks as mulch?

Hello i have few plants outdoors and was wondering if its ok to use small river rocks around the base of the plants as a mulch? What are the pros and cons of this? I was using ground up bark and log matter but found all the extra moisture attracted potato bugs so i got rid of it and put a decent amount of river rocks around the base of each plant. Any opinions on this?

I do that aswell.
Shiiiit I use normal rocks though, ones from rivers proboly have minerals on em.. which is 2 thumbs up.

Have you had good results using them?

light colored rocks reflect more light for plants that is good
