Root Rot?

Looks like you have some mold on your sponges. That will definitely cause root rot.
You can try to move it into a new, clean sponge and see if that helps.
The roots look okay, you just have shit on your sponges.

I would say light, but I see you are using the labels and have all your holes covered up.
do you know what your res temp is?
Have a stone inside and the temp is pretty low, I scraped the mold off the sponge and changed the water in the res. Will monitor closely.

You use sugar or mollases, if so that will cause it. Also what kind of nutes, if your nutes are dark brown it could just be stain. If you want get some hygrozyme, its an enzyme that eats decaying matter, the same stuff that fungi is trying to eat. Also you could add a tbsp of H2O2 per gal of water, that will eat up the fungi.
Havent started nutes yet, only a week in on the growing process. Where can I obtain that hygrozyme, that sounds useful

light still penetrates even if you use the labels. it reflects (not sure if that's the right word) through the plastic holders, bit like light down fiber optic cables, if you know what i mean. it doesn't usually cause a problem but if the temps are high enough you could be getting brown algea on the sponge. you only need to worry if the roots start going brown and slimey.
