Round 2: Extrema & El Monstre DWC Cooler Scrog

I am currently flowering 2 El Monstre plants in a scrog and decided to start a new journal for round 2. I had no females from the Extrema in round 1 so I'm hoping for better results this time. I learned a bit from the first grow and plan to put my new found experience to use this grow. They are currently in a Rubbermaid tote, but will be moved into the cooler as soon as these others are done flowering.
Feel free to post or comment!!

Plants are 8 days from sprout and the clone has been in DWC for the same time.
It was started in soil and moved to DWC.

Added some nutes to the rez. Been running straight pH'd water

I plan to do a 4 week veg before flowering. They have been one week under CFL's.

Ready to get them under the MH for the last 2-3 weeks!!
Only have one ballast and its housing the HPS
Waiting on the postman to bring my microscope so I can check the trichs and chop

PPM 475

pH 5.9

I topped the plants in the first round but I don't think I'm going to TOP or FIM this round. Wanna see the difference that it makes in a Scrog.
I may LST them until I put them under the screen. First round I put them under the screen during veg and ended up having a male, so I had to pull it out.
The space filled in nicely but it was a pain.
Not sure what my yield will be for round 1, but I'd like to double it round 2. Chopping by the end of the week.
Scope coming today so if they are done then I'll chop today

Got 2 of the 6 inch micropore airstones from Petco today for $5 each and hooked my spare air pump up to them.
So now there are 2 6 inch micropore and 2 10 inch blue stones in the rez with 2 Top Fin 4000 pumps pushing them in a small tote.
I should really have them in a smaller cooler while vegging instead of a tote. No worries with rez temps in the cooler. Totes suck!!
They will be in one very soon..

I had to clean out a small cooler to put them in. I came in yesterday and the rez temp was 74 so I lowered it to 68.
I checked last night and it was 69 and this morning it was 74
. So I put them in the Coleman.
Temps should stay down below 70 now
.
For those of you who are using totes or Rubbermaids.
Don't waste your time and effort into making them nice. Get a cooler
!!

Lowered the PPMs to 350 after I added the stones and switched them into the cooler.
Temps have been at 69 ever since.
The bubble action in this smaller cooler is awesome. Should be plenty of oxygen in there.
I could probably breath in there if I stuck my head under the water. Lol
Plants were looking down before but they are starting to perk back up

Are you putting an ice pack in the cooler?
Thanks for being the first to post in here. I'd rep ya if I could.
I don't need an ice pack in there. I don't put anything in my big cooler either. The coolers do a very good job at maintaining the proper temps.
I only had them in the tote to begin with because I was only planning on them being in there for only about a week,
but my buds are not ripe enough to chop yet so I am keeping them under CFL's since I only have one MH/HPS ballast.
I don't like to use ice bottles because they can bounce around and damage the roots or they can freeze the roots if they rest next to them.

Hoping these sprouts make a turn around very soon or they will be pulled up and trashed.
I changed & cleaned out the rez yesterday
with bleachy water. Lowered the nutes again to 245 PPM.
I initially wanted to start around 200 PPM but I mixed the nutes and it was 475 so I left it in there to see what they would do.
Which I knew was too high to begin with but I was being lazy and didn't lower them.
Not sure thats what my problem is though.
Checked today and the pH was 6.9 for some reason so I lowered back to 5.8.
Noticed the roots on one of my pots didn't look so good and had a small bit of brown slime on the roots.
So I added a small amount of bleach to the rez to see if that will take care of it.
Opinions vary on that subject. It works for me..

I gave a slight tug on the roots and the roots came off the pot. Bullshit!!
I raised the water level back to 1/4 over bottom of the pot and gonna try to encourage new root growth.
I put covers over my net pots so the light won't penetrate through the hydroton.
It's something simple and I will get it figured out..

pH 5.8
PPM 245
Rez Temp 69.6
Cab Temp 78

KEEP IT COMING! i wanna know more about this LST and then SCROG.... sounds like a good combo but how much longer are you thinkin for veg?
Glad to have you stop in +Rep
I was planning to do a 4 week veg but I'm still waiting on my other plants to ripen up so I can move them into the main grow cab.
They are in a closet right now with a couple CFLs and a small fan blowing on them with no intake/exhaust setup. Ready to move em!!
Prob do another 3-4 weeks of veg since they are kinda small still and then LST them til they show signs of sex.

Here are a couple pics of my current scrog grow. Almost chop time!! Hoping for better results with Round 2

So you start your seeds in dirt then move them to the DWC setup with the hydroton rocks. Just wondering can you start the seeds in the DWC right away?

I had the El Monstre clone in dirt because I was gonna let it grow in soil but I changed my mind and moved it into the DWC.
The 2 Extrema sprouts I germ'd the seeds in wet paper towel and placed it in a ziplock bag and stored them in a drawer for 2-3 days.
Then the germ'd seeds went into the rapid rooter plugs. In a humidity dome and kept moist until they have roots coming out.
Or you can start the seed in the rapid rooter plug and let it grow some roots out of the bottom and then move into the DWC net pot.
But yes you can start a seed in soil and move it before it establishes a good root system and wash the roots very good before moving to DWC.

They are starting to look better. Had some minor setbacks.
Bout another week and I can move them into their new permanent home
where they should explode with growth.

PPM 235
pH 5.8
Rez Temp 68.5
Temp 76

Looking great BB just a couple thoughts. res temp at 68 you can drop that another 5 degrees to 63 and increase your DO have a look here http://users.vcnet.com/rrenshaw/do.html
I run at 63 and than in the last 10 days down to 60/58, going this low at the end of flower can produce colors in the plants. The other thing is 235ppm is that just till you move them? I run at 300 than build to 550 during veg, 4 weeks.

For pH I keep it between 5.4 and 6.2. Here is some useful info on pH and PPM interaction.

If your nutrients are at 500ppm and two days later there at 350ppm you need to up your ppm! It works like this change res set ppm at say 600ppm pH 5.5 run for 24hrs, now if you ppm rise and pH drops nutrients are to strong. If ppm drop and pH rises, nutrients are to weak. But if your ppm and pH are basically stable then you have found the right mix for your plants.
Then when topping off your res use premixed nutrients to keep it at that level, if it starts to rise or fall adjust top off nutrients as needed to bring it back to proper level. Don't worry about the numbers just let the plant tell you what it needs and you will be fine.

Good growing bro we both should do better this time around.
