LOWRYDER 2 GROW

My last grow went horribly wrong, that's if you can even count it as a grow only made it up to about 2 weeks and all my plants where dead! Hoping to do better this time around though. They say you learn from your mistakes so we will see how things go. Any input along the way would be great though!

Basic information about my setup.
I will be trying to grow lowryder 2 again. Going to be growing indoors indside my cab,(which is in my wardrobe.) My cab mesures about 60cm high, by 40cm wide and 30cm deep. (Hoping this is going to be big enough to grow a couple of lowryers in.)

Lighting.
For my lighting i have invested in a new cfl grow light. My cfl bulb is 125watt dual spectrum bulb which means it has both the red and blue spectrum light in it so i should be able to use the same light from start to finish i hope. Unlike most people who have there lights so they can be ajusted i have mine fastened in one place, but instead i have a shelve that i will lift to the right hight and place my pots on there seemed like the best option at the time seems to be working ok so far. Think i prefer it because i know my light is fastened solid and is very ulikely to fall down with it setup this way. Only have the one light so far will get more later on if needs be.

Air flow.
For my intake i'm using a pc extractor fan at the bottom of my cab wired to a 12volt adapter. For extracting the hot air i'm using a 100mm bathroom extractor fan wired to a normal 3amp plug. The fans are a bit loud really but i have managed to quiet them down a bit by warpping foam around them. Also i have made my bathroom fan a bit quieter by getting a piece of plastic pipe slightly bigger than my fan and placing it over my fan then putting some more plastic around that pipe with a gap about inch big inbetween the two bits of pipes. I then filled the gab between the two with cotton wool to help with vibrations. This just slides in and out so when i need to add a carbon filter later on, i can just slide it off put my filter inside the pipe and slide it back on again.

Will update later on my plants when i have taken some pics, thought i'd start off with the setup first.

I germanated 2 lowryder-2 seeds a couple of days ago by wrapping them in damp cotton wool and putting them somewhere dark and warm (ontop of my dvd player.) Then yesterday i planted the seeds as they had tap roots already. Before i planted them i put my soil (normal garden soil from my local garden centre.) In my peat pots and watered the soil (with water i had let stand for 24 hours.) I placed the pots back in my cab for 30mins to warm the soil though then i planted my germanted seeds in the soil placed the pots back in the cab and covered the pots in clean film.

This is where i'm at now. My seeds have only been planted about a day and have already spouted. I have already had to take the clean film off the pots because my plants where too tall and where touching the clean film! Havn't watered yet since i watered the soil yesterday don't plan on waterering them today either. My temps are at 75ish which i guess is ok would like them a bit lower though really. So far so good! Hope things continue to go this way! Pics below.

So far so Good hmmm.

I'm subscribed and will do my best to help with the little knowledge that I have.

What did you water them with? are you able to test the waters pH? if not, add 1 drop of lemon juice to 1 pint of water, that will give you an approx pH of 6 / 6.5. (most UK tap water is 7 or more)

Good luck this time bro, I have my fingers crossed for you.

I was planning on having my lights on 18/6 for this grow but have ran into problems with that as my timer doesn't work and it's not possible for me to turn them on and off everyday. So have had to go back to plan one like in my last attempted having my lights on 24/7 now instead, just hope that it doesn't get too warm in there and dry my soil up too fast! Temps have been at 75 all day, added a 500ml bottle of frozen water to the cab a bit eariler and i think that has bought my temps down by about 5, so at 70ish now. Watered them today since they really looked like they could do with it, not to worried about over watering them yet as i didn't water them yesterday so hoping all will be fine. Not sure if one of them seems a bit stretched though any opinons anyone? Also the other one is kinda laying flat hoping that's just because it's a bit behind and it will strighten out in the next 24hours. As always any opinions are great! Pics below.

Those pots you are using are not very popular, if you can get a plastic one it would be much better. A cab is the worst place to have them too because they dry out too quick.
Having said that, some people use the colour of the pot to gauge when to water the plant again.
It's just a thought as you want every little edge you can get to make this one work.
Ill keep looking in

All still looking good temps been at 75 most of day havn't watered them proberly will tomorrow. Not sure if my lights are maybe too far away though. Think one of my plants maybe looks a bit stretched? What do people think? Maybe i need to move my light closer? Or is it ok as it is? Thanks. Pics below.

Had a few problems bathroom fan was way to noisy so i had to take it off. Now have my pc extractor fan at the top sucking the hot air out. Seems to be ok so far to say there is only the one pc fan in there temps just under 80. Going to have to look into getting a new fan though i think. Plants are doing fine though, watered them today and am going to water them every other day from now on i think. Sorry about the bad pics! Forgot to take them before it was dark opps.

I'm glad to see they are growing well bro.
You could move them a bit closer to the light which might stop them stretching but personally, I would keep them where they are for a few more days until they are a bit stronger and can take the heat better. They probably will stretch a bit but better that than burn them with the light, you can just plant them a bit deeper when you re-pot them.
every other day sounds about right for watering with those pots. They tend to dry out quicker, I would still just put my finger in the soil near the edge first, check if there is any moisture about an inch down, (wash hands first) if there is then leave it another day.
So far, I'd say you are doing 1000% better than the first couple of grows.

I have just put 6 seeds in cotton wool a few hours ago to germinate.
I will keep you up to date, and hopefully I will be a week behind you all the way. My camera wont upload at the moment so no pics but I have been taking them so hopefully i will get them online within a week.

So far so good my friend. How's the other fella' is he still alive?

Its all going to plan there hmm, they are looking fine so I would leave them where they are. Is that a thermometer in your cab? If so, move your plants about an inch apart and put the thermometer on top of the pots between the two plants then you will see what the true temps are where the plants sit, if it is above 78 then leave them where they are, if its cooler then put the plants closer to the lights but make sure it doesnt go over 80 degrees. If it is already above 80 move them down a bit.
The closeness of your plants to the light depends on temps at this point, too close and too hot, then you will fry them.
You know the saying..... If it aint broke, dont fix it.
So far so good, i knew you would get it right this time, it will seem like nothing is really happening for a while then they will liven up, in a couple of months they will be keeping you busy enough so just take it easy while the workload is at a minimum.

Good job Hmmm

What light is that? And do you have dimensions on it?

I'm turning my nightstand into a mini grow much like yours and want to know if that light will fit/be able to grow 2 plants.

Thanks man, they look good so far!

Barking my temps are at 80 now where it is! I don't know what's happened hotter weather i think, looks like i'm going to have to look into getting a diffrent fan after all. Think i'll leave them the distance they are for now, like you said better a bit stretched than burnt to a crisp!

Still seem to be doing fine, even though my temps have gone up a bit. Pics below.

80 is fine, its not ideal but I am having the same problem my plants reached 90 at times yesterday and are about 84/86 today. You're right, it is the weather we are having. but yes, don't put them any closer as they will get even hotter.
You are doing a fine job this time hmmm, I am looking forward to watching your progress.
It has to be a buzz for you just to see they are doing OK after the first round of disasters!!! Nice one mate!!!

Check out this grow hmmm.
He is growing lowriders in a cab same as you but is a couple of weeks ahead. i don't know if he will maintain his journal, there is only one entry so far but is worth keeping an eye on. You can learn from his mistakes.
