Ruined seeds, Saved like a pro.

For many years i have done the paper towel method, among many others. i find it to work the best with hardy seeds as the towel is always to wet or to dry. Many times the seed will crack and put out a 1mm tail and stop there. No matter what is done it stays there? i have watched them for up to 2 weeks and then rot, Not budging what so ever. I have also planted these seeds in soil after a wk of nothing but said 1mm tail and they sprout, but would Not germ any further in the towels. this is not just once or twice im talking for years and seeds from all over. just some questions and thoughts Ive had if anyone knows anything through experience.

The real reason i wrote this is.....
How many times have you checked your towels to find them completely dry and stiff??Thinking Dang Idiot smacking yourself. As you open the towel and see the small tap root 1mm long is now black and back inside completely shrunk, scorched DEAD!
Possibly with your only seeds or rarest most scarce stash vault treasures. You get mad at yourself and move forward, mostly throwing them away or planting them just because you hope so hard a miracle will happen(but wont bc its dead).
l choose this time to fill a large vial with 80-85 degree water and added 1/2ml of Humic acid to roughly 3-4 oz of water and sat it on my heating mat that keeps it solidly at 80 82 degrees. i placed the 3 fried seeds in with 2 other yoda og that are new and put it back on the heating mat. BTW, the ruined seeds if watered before bed would of made it. i forgot and checked in the morning about 10 hrs too late.
later that night at dinner i checked them and thought WOW that was quick the seeds popped and got a nub going. But that was completely the opposite of what really happened. the 2 new ones cracked but no tail yet. and 2 of the 3 ruined seeds actually rejuvenated and not only blew up like it never happened but added a mm to its length. This made me so confused i stood there stupefied. The moral of this, Next time you think you ruined your seeds by baking them on the heat mat until the paper is stiff. At least try this with water or a dab of black strap. if you cant keep the temperature in the sweet zone and or monitor it properly i don't advise this.

lemme know your thoughts, i just thought i would share BC in my 5 years growing cannabis specifically i have Never heard of or witnessed this.

your avatar is INCREDIBLE for real!!!

i guess BC i look at each seed so important planting direct makes me nervous. in your experience white, why do you choose this method? I have struggled for years with seeds. its so simple but yet unless you have great fresh stock i do NOT get strong seeds.

i used to plant direct in Dixie cups and solo party cups. i always worry its to cold or too wet or dry. and believe me if i had strong seeds this issue wouldn't sound so amateur. i mean i can clone 100% succsess by the dozen for years but struggle with something so stupid.

There's no paper towels in nature. Get medium wet before planting seed, plant and put somewhere they will stay warm. Leave alone until sprout. If the seeds are good shouldn't be a problem besides being impatient.

Don't over think it, it's just a seed.

I plant seed in a small container and cover it with some clear wrap, tie a rubber band around and poke holes. Boom small personal dome.

For sprouting seeds I think one of the more important thing is to have really high humidity. Just what I've learned so far

I always have a Bundy avatar. Thank you.

When that tap root pops out it develops many very fine roots hairs. They can either be drowned or dried out. They can also be damaged. That damage will allow pathogens or bacteria in.

Just start them in soil like nature intended.

From start to finish. Yes I have since put the cords on the wall.
Those are 15 inch wide pots that hold close to five gallons. The first is a week or two old then finish. Those are also autos.

High humidity does help, it also exponentially increases the chance of damping off. So I don't dome, but I guess if folks want to, know to get the dome off as soon as they break ground!

I wont use a dome but use a loose piece of cardboard or something if need be. Loose fitting though.

thank you all for your input. i think i just get impatient and bc its so hard to get authentic genetics i freak out over every seed. bc of my situation i take clones and keep a mother and just interchange them and replace it and flower the original out. what really helped me understand which i guess i just was thinking to hard bc i know this but the reminder of the micro hairs growing on the tap root. I realized my heat mat was to hot and burning them off like you said. i have the most problems in the winter when the ambient air is cooler.... thank you again. @whitebb2727 thank you greatly for the roots thing sometimes its just a reminder thats needed. if i could just get ahold of a decent genetic and run it id be happy i just cant get the seed or clone....

my one question that still remains though.
when you use a towel to pop them what is the difference and what is the Mechanism that says go. like Ive had vast amount of seed pop in a towel and not budge what so ever Only swell open and will sit there until they drown, burn, or it rots. but if you plant that seed in soil 9/10 times it will go regardless of a tap tail or not. What is That biological mechanism rite there?! what happens when said seed is placed in soil and it goes? why will it just die in the towel but in the soil the exact same environment it will come alive when otherwise seems dead or no matter what enviroment you create this will NOT happen. im sorry if this doesnt make sense , if someone can understand me thank you for trying. if not ill retry to type this. btw i have and do study cannabis botany on my own just a hobby and understanding Why is everything to me, and allows me to be able to properly grow with confidence.
