San Pedro potting situation?

I bought a couple of fully rooted San Pedro's at the local nursery. They appear to be bound together for life. First question being, is there any way to separate the 2? If not, will there be any adverse effects with them growing so close to each other? Most of everything I've seen online the Pedro's grow independently. I added a picture of the roots. They seemed to have a bit of a rotted look. No foul smell. Obviously cactus are different than cannabis, but are the roots normal?

You can separate them. Just cut the roots. Those things are very resilient to everything but excessive moisture.


You will get sprites eventually so no, they don't really grow individually.
