I was just smoken with my girl checked my ladies whom just woke up just dying to be trimmed, started flippin through my cannabis culture and noticed this cartoon on the back they always have. I was giving tip on growing , it said using(washed clean) sand as a top layer is really nice to them , it helps prevent pests, white sand reflects light, helps keep moisture in , specifically for indica. I think its a good idea for both out and in doors why not right? I'm going to do it my next crop as a back to back and I'll post it in a month or so, due to moving.
any opinions? has anyone tried it? how did it work out ? and why don't you see big timer soil growers use it?

i just recently started using sand and love it. i started using because of nats , but i like the fealing of knowing its less i have to worry about , and the plants dont seem to mind especially sence sand reflects the light. i just scoop the sand to the side , water and put it back.

Forget sand, it's messy and it'll keep the soil too moist.

If you have fungus gnat problems then put a .5" layer of diomataeceous earth on top of your soil. It's a powder similar to sand made from the fossilized remains of sea creatures. It has very sharp edges on each particle that work like razor blades to kill the gnats when they try to enter/exit the soil, which is where they lay their eggs. It literally shreds their bodies. This coupled with some sticky traps for the adults will stop their life cycle.
