Security solutions? For creative thinkers only

Ok, so I love trying to find crazy solutions to problems, but this one has me relatively stumped. My grow is in a small closet in an apartment. About 21" wide and about 22" deep.
I'm trying to find a way to, if not lock, secure the door closet to prevent unauthorized entry aka landlord, roommates family, etc. You know, people who would just be poking their heads in closets.
The only thing I can think of would be an eyelet and arm style latch, placed on the inside, and opened by sliding the arm up from the outside. But wouldn't know how to latch it, and I couldn't light proof it either.
-----
I spent some time thinking about it just now, and I have a possible solution, albeit not cost effective or perhaps practical. A remote control servo that would slide a bolt lock into place (the kind you might find in an old motel or something). But I don't have the time and money to invest in designing the system...

Any ideas??

A new door knob would work best but also you can get a slide latch that works with a magnet, takes a little rigging but it works.

Fingerprint Door Lock

you want cool check it
Actually I've been looking at those today, I've decided that if I ever go full scale my grow room will have fingerprint or rfid or even this cool thing called the knocker. It sends a fast pulsed knock through the door medium that unlocks the door, and the sequence is a rolling encryption and shit. So its pick proof, spoof-proof, and untamperable.
Though if I was going to go fingerprint I'd want to go high end those chinese made ones can be fooled with even a high rez enhanced photocopy, nonetheless more sophisticated methods.
why not by a new door knob for the door that has a key lock on it???
Can't do any mods visible from the outside. Same goes for any other latch with padlock, or anything else.

Thats an incredibly good idea! Thats the kind of thinking I was looking for. I'll have to try it out.

Buy a locking filing cabinet, easy to add fans to the back where nobody can see them and very easy to light proof. Nobody worries much or thinks a filing cabinet out of place, and although they're fairly easy locks to pick most people don't have the motivation to open a boring filing cabinet.

i think a new doorknob is the easiest or cheapest idea or you could go high teck and more expensive and safer with the fingerprint lock device

The closet is in your room?

Buy a big dog, and never let your roommates stroke him. Train your dog by disguising yourself (i train my dog by creeping over the back fence in dark clothing and a ski mask), and pretending to break into your own room.

WARNING: The dog must be able to recognise your voice, and certain commands. This how you prevent your dog from tearing your throat out.

Of course he'll stop. Your dog should know who it's master is. Climbing over the fence in dark clothing only fools your dog a little, he just guesses something's up by the way you're acting. Raises his suspiscions that you may not be his master. This is what sends him into attack mode. all it takes (when you feel it has gone far enough) is a shout, or command and the dog should recognise you and it's body language will change instantly.

This teaches the dog what you want it to do. After this it would be wise to invest in a 'Beware Of The Dog' sign to cover your ass should any of your friends end up with no throat. My friends all stroke my dog, but it only takes one command for him to get them. he's more restrained with them, he'll give a warning growl first, then they have to stand stock still with their hands in their pockets and avoiding eye contact with the dog. lol. great fun. Ive actually grabbed him in mid-air as he went for a friend of mine once. My dog had turned away after my friend stood down, my friend then called my dog a prick and the dog turned and pounced towards my friend. It was like he reacted because my mate had called him a prick. funny as shit.

Not to be a party pooper or anything but it would be a real shame if the cops found your grow room because your house was being robbed by yourself:lol:

Obviously you do it in the dark.

Also, once you can prove you live in the property the police have no right to enter your home. I once opened the door to old bill, not too long ago. I had a grow on upstairs with no filter and I was smoking a head when I answered, blew a waft of smoke into his face when I realised it wasn't who I thought it was. He didn't bat an eyelid, just asked me if some local kids have been giving me any trouble as there had been some complaints.

Know your rights.

Although it is a good point not to get caught breaking into your own home, but then you'd have to be pretty stupid for this to happen in the first place. It's logical that if you needed to break into anywhere that your own place would be the easiest not to get caught doing.

Skunk...Youre the man seriously...No disrespect intended...But I protection train dogs....Its never a good idea to what you suggested. Agitation training (which is what youre touching on) should only be used on a dog that is a guard dog only....if he/she will be a family pet....thats not a good call.

Even w/ a Beware of Dog Sign....You'll more than likely get the shit sued outta you if that dog got to someone....Good if you live in a rural area with no visitors....Bad idea if the dog is to be around anyone but the owner.

I hear you. But I have a young family and my dog fulfills both roles adequately. He shies away from the kids even when they hurt him. He'll just cry out and move away.

Dogs are more intelligent than we give them credit for (you must know this), and I agree that with a very intelligent breed (german sheppherd, doberman etc) what i'm doing would be the wrong approach.

The two breeds that I find the easiest to fulfill both roles are the boxers, and rottweillers. This is from my personal experience. Although I have seen the same done with similar breeds... american pits, mastiffs... etc.
The good thing about these dogs is that they are slightly stupid and back in the old dog-fighting days these dogs were best because they would never bite the master's hand as he dragged them out of the pit... even in full scale battle.

Intelligent dogs do make (with the right training) the best guard dogs. Although if you want a nice mix of both then go for a stupid breed.

Yet still, like with almost everything else, the dog's behaviour will ultimately depend on a lot of variables. senility in old age a common factor in many dog attacks within the home (I don't know this from stats or anything, this is from personal experience).

The dog must also have a master, or top dog. Dogs are pack animals and once you introduce the dog into your home it's instinct is to discover it's pecking order (particularly males). It is your responsibility (as master) to show the dog that it sits firmly at the bottom of the pile. the bigger the dog, the more effort you need to put into showing the dog who's boss. This is because a dog can tell if you are scared... if you are scared the dog will start to take the piss... may even bite one of the kids.

Where I live if the dog is in a fenced in yard or in your house well, that is just the intruders ass.
All a beware of dog sign does is cover your ass so you can say I told you so but it is not necessary.

My dog is not mean to other people or dogs when he is with me.
If someone broke in while I was not there then woah be unto them.
