Whatever you decide to do, don't boobytrap your grow. That's a really bad idea. If someone happens across your plants and gets hurt (god forbid it be law enforcement, then you're really fucked) by your "security", you're in a whole new world of trouble.

Motion sensor lights, a fence, a big dog.. these are all acceptable solutions.

i dont think motion sensor lights are such a good idea, you dont want them coming on in the middle of the night light stressing your plants risking hermis

and a agree with doob, dont set any real traps. maybe set up some string that looks like a trip wire so they think there could be traps everywhere

I've heard more then once, of would be robbers actually turning around and suing the person for getting hurt on their property and winning.

Yeah booby traps are not a good idea. This is a good way to get caught or even sued. Believe it. It happens all the time. Thieves that get shot breaking in to a persons house usually sue and win if they live. If not, the family sues and usually wins. Completely backwards, I know, but this is the world we live in.

Yep, it happens more often than you'd think. Plus, they can always say they just hopped the fence/entered the yard to get a closer look at the plants. They might end with a ticket for trespassing, but most likely the cops will be so thrilled with the discovery of the "marijuana factory" that they'll forgo charges altogether and the robber turns into a hero!

A story doesn't have to be true to be believable =) Who are they going to listen to? The guy who broke his leg trying to bring justice to a drug peddler, or the guy growing an "illegal narcotic" in his back yard?

Think about it, if a would-be robber breaks his leg after climbing your fence.. how in the hell is he going to get out of there without calling for help? I mean, you can kill him if that's your thing.. but if it were, you wouldn't be posting here on a public forum asking how to avoid theft, would you?

uhh first off.

booby trapping ANYTHING, is a crime, A LARGE crime, depoending on how pissed the cops are, and how much potential for injury. you can get charged with, mansluaghter, malicious intent, depraved indiferance, use of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime, assualt, assault with intent, and becuase of alot of shit thats gone down, alot of boobytraps now fall into the realm of homeland security.

and for the rest of you. if someone goes to the cops and says hey i was trying to steal weed from this guy and his traps hurt me. they might not come get you for assualt on the thief. but they WILL be coming.

you want to keep people out of your yard. plant your fencline with wild roses and locust trees. or blackberries and poison ivy.

but shit man just get a dog and train him not to piss on your plants.

a motion activated light, will only startle them and put them on their guard. meaning next time they will take a more directly aggressive route.

also if the light goes off. what you gonna do. if you threaten them with a gun odds are they will juat come with guns next time. if you shout at them, whats to stop em from just coming inside and beating you to death. they already know you cant call the cops.

also. when i was a youth. back in my more.....precotious days. we always brought bb guns 2 take care of lights like that. but u cant take care of no dog with a bb gun.

just go with a dog. from a criminals standpoint its too much of an X factor.

or get some ostriches. they some mean territorial muther fuckers. and nobody with half a fuckin brain fucks with one twice.

oooooooooooooo or you could get a puma. that would be bad ass.

Many criminals that were injured while by a booby trap of some kind in the process of committing a crime have successfully sued the person or store they were attempting to rob and won. It is not legal to set traps regardless of your reason for doing so.

Many years ago in Chicago a jewelry store had been robbed several times.

Criminals found they could get on the building’s roof and be out of sight and cut through the roof, enter the store, rob it and then leave undetected.

After several robberies while the damage to the ceiling/roof was being repaired the storeowner had a heavy wire grate installed in an open area between the roof and interior ceiling, and he had it electrified.

The criminals returned and again attempted to come through the roof and one of them was electrocuted.

The storeowner was found guilty of several different criminal charges including some level of murder or manslaughter.

A somewhat similar event happened many years ago while I was living in Arkansas. A man’s home had repeatedly been broken into.

He rigged a double barrel 12-gauge shotgun to each door. When the criminal returned he was almost cut in half when coming through the door.

The homeowner, like the storeowner, was found guilty of several different criminal offenses.

Even if you only hurt someone by a booby trap you set regardless of it being during a criminal act the criminal can sue you.

He may be sitting in jail for some time because of the crime he committed or attempted to commit when injured before he can begin to spend your money but he will receive your money, and possibly a great deal of it depending on the harm he suffered and other factors involved.

Some criminals have even successfully sued after having been bitten/attacked by family dogs so that is not even a totally safe way to go.

As long as the light doesn't hit the plants, there shouldn't be an issue.

A 12Gauge works well.. So does Sexually Assualting any1 u find in there.

thats the stupidest replay i have ever heard. i bet you have been to jail and will probably go back. the best way to prevent anyone from steeling your grow is, 1) dont tell anyone about it. 2) make it hard to get to by placing far away from the fence close to the street or entrance. 3) get a dog, i like chihuahua's they make great alarms and they dont require much food. 4) place fishing line all around the plants and attach bells to them. other then that i would recomend some possitive thinking and less paranoia. your negative thinking about traps and such is going to cause something bad to happen. stop worrying about it. and stop telling people about it and youl be fine.

electric fence and a big dog! he cant sue you that way! if he electrocutes himself, you say the electric wire is on the fence for your dog, if the dog bites him, he shouldnt have been in your fuckin yard without permission!

I believe with security it really has to be an " All or Nothing" mentality. Dogs are great, Fencing (Juiced possibly if no kids, or anything disturbing it), booby traps....see and think it all.....I know a gentleman who has accepted that even though they maybe be able to do a james bond and get passed every trap or what not, and it the garden......but they sure as fuck are leaving the same way they came....empty handed! As far as them getting hurt,.....be it cop or criminal if they are coming onto a secured and private party/property by any means other than a signed search warrant well.....ITS ON THEM.......While in the commission of a crime be it a felony or whatever, and a person is found guilty of any crime....there is no way in hell any judge is going to award a law suit to the dumb fucker who tried robbing you for whatever the reason may be.

However, depending on the scale of your grow-op, and its stage of growth, if the robber really wanted to get you in trouble he could, however depending on how you react to the trespassing/robbery ....thing can come to an understanding......just gotta play it out right.....maybe use a little gun/force play.....however there is other means...kinda like in law enforcement I would use deadly, or hell any force as a last measure.

Good Luck and Happy Harvest

Well I'm no lawyer but criminals have sued and have won their civil cases as a result of being injured during the commission of a crime. It ain't right...welcome to our brave new world.
