No way to tell, you have not shown a picture, or decribed what it looks like enough to make an educated guess. So I am going to say, It is a new Alien life form coming to take over the plantet. :)

you can check my grow journal..i dont have a pic of the stem but can you tell from my leaves..the lastest pictures are them at 2 weeks

I don't know what the white stem may be. I wouldn't worry about it though, the leaves look fine. You are correct to ease up on the watering.

it sounds like stem rot,but i cant tell without looking at your photo's(i am on dial up and those photo's in your grow journel are just to big)

stem rot is caused by over watering,let them dry out a bit

IMO, it's possible that the white stem has just broken ground and, is thus, temporarily blanched, kinda like celery.?
