The Senate will be voting on a bill that will direct American military resources not at an enemy shooting at our military in a war zone, but at American citizens and other civilians far from any battlefield - even people in the United States itself. ...

The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president - and every future president - the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world. Even Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) raised his concerns about the NDAA detention provisions during last night's Republican debate. The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself.

The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will be on the Senate floor on Monday. The bill was drafted in secret by Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) and passed in a closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing.

I know it sounds incredible. New powers to use the military worldwide, even within the United States? ...And American citizens and people picked up on American or Canadian or British streets being sent to military prisons indefinitely without even being charged with a crime. Really? Does anyone think this is a good idea? And why now?

Dear Senator Murray,

I strongly urge the Senate to oppose sections 1031 and 1032 in S.1253, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA).

If enacted, sections 1031 and 1032 of the NDAA would:

1) Explicitly authorize the federal government to indefinitely imprison without charge or trial American citizens and others picked up inside and outside the United States;

(2) Mandate military detention of some civilians who would otherwise be outside of military control, including civilians picked up within the United States itself; and

(3) Transfer to the Department of Defense core prosecutorial, investigative, law enforcement, penal, and custodial authority and responsibility now held by the Department of Justice.

These provisions in the NDAA are inconsistent with fundamental American values embodied in the Constitution. I urge the Senate reject the NDAA and its indefinite detention provisions.

"Didn't the Senators( & Representatives) take an oath to "support & defend the Constitution of the U.S." when taking office? If so, then why even consider any legislation that would circumvent the articles contained in the Constitution of the U.S.?

This bill is an endangerment to everyone.It serves no purpose to help the American people.national security?Its far from it.Its more like a step away from marshall law.This bill is ridiculous and should be expunged from law.

And think, McCain could have been our president! Obama's not lookin so bad when you consider how batshit crazy the alternative was.

what is your point? Its ok to have soldiers on every street corner performing random searches, seizues and ID checks because you think they are all nice guys with our best interests at heart? They don't work for us. They are hired to work against us. They work for the Corporation of America. They are hired to control Americas assets (citizens). They will be there to ensure we keep working instead of asking questions so they can continue to extract wealth and pay the bonds they owe and keep the whole internment camp moving forward.

I just can't understand people that refuse to see that this is happening. We have survived so far without the need for these laws, why do we need them now? Everday people deny and everyday more bills and laws and fact based evidence comes out supporting this.
