i just recieved my 400 watt hps hooded light, and i am growing in a 4Lx1.5Wx7H sized room. running the 400 watt in such a small space i know i will face heat issues, so i have an oscilating fan, and plan to buy a cool tube from htg supply to fit both my metal hylide and hps bulb...i just need some help with the construction of the ventilation through the tube.. ducting, what size exhaust fan, carbon filter, etc....pleasee helpp

you need 2 independant systems 1 for the cool tube and 1 for the filter
i use a 424 cfm inline fan outside my grow room pusing air thru a 6 inch duct to the cool tube and another 6 inch duct coming off the exhaust side of the cool tube going out of the grow room to a dryer vent to outside. because this air has never been in your grow room because the tube is sealed it is safe to dump outside unfiltered .... you can dump this air just outside your room as well but i found it heats up my intake air defeating the cooltube

Sorry to hijack this thread but you said there needs to be 2 independent systems for the cooltube and for the filter, i have been planning out my ventilation setup the past couple of days and this is what i had planned.

A high cfm inline fan pulling air from the cooltube with the filter attached to the end. here is an image showing it more clearly.

this can work in some instances with limited success ... the reason for that is that you will be drawing air that is already warm from inside the room thru your cooltube which defeats the purpose of the cooltube in most cases. the air you push or pull thru the cool tube needs to be fresh cool air from a source not already heated by your light.
the only way i have seen a single fan work is using a y pipe so that you use 1 fan to drive 2 separate sets of ducting. this too has its limitations because te air will take the path of least resistance which will usually be the cooltube and not the air filter

i use one fan for everything and it work good. The only thing you cant do is supliment co2 in because you will be constantly venting. I have a 6 inch can filter to a 6 inch cool tube to a 460 cfm blower and then it vents inside the apartment. There is no smell issue or heat i run at 78 f all day long. I live close to HTG and this was Marcus suggestion on best and most cost effective heat and smell control. It works good i swear. Also build your own carbon can save alot of money and no different.

who says you need two extract fans  600w hps, cooltube, 5" fan and filter, budbox xl, passive intakes temps 25-27*c lights on 19-21*c lights off. run this setup for a few years now, summer and winter, zero problems........

That would make it a 140 CFM fan. That's great that you are able to pull through a carbon filter, AND cool off your cool tube, AND cool off your grow with only a 140 CFM, I'm shocked.

yea its per hour mate, it works great, when i zip myself up in the tent i can feel shitloads of air being drawn in through the passives and being sucked up towards the filter, i tested all the airflow when i set up the tent using chimney testing smoke bombs, and the smoke was being pulled up to the filter at a serious rate, it even sucks the sides of the tent in a little, for this reason im considering getting an equal size intake fan in the future, but its not really needed. with the 600 the cooltube is lukewarm to the touch, most of the time here its cold but some summers it can reach 30*c, even in that temp my room max's out at 31*c which isnt that bad, but average at the moment 26*c which is pretty much ideal, in winter itl be about 24.
