You will find a million one off this works stories. My .02 cents the better tool used normally gives you a better result. A light designed for the usable spectrum is a better fit. Plus there are often features such as dimming or changing spectrum for the stage the plant is in
You can weld with a HF welder but you will never match the quality I get from my Miller.

Yeah a standard kitchen/shop strip light will just be bright white, say a colur temp of 4000k for example.
A purpose built LED grow light will have a range of red, blue and white LEDs in more suitable colour spectrums/temperatures. Plus you get some with dimmers which help save power when the plants are small.
Will it work? maybe, but it will be like doing a whole grow just with regular CFL's, you'll get the efficiency gains from LED but it won't be the optimum spectrum for plants.

The first grow I ever did in 1975 was with fluorescent shop lights. The weed was fantastic! However......that's because it was old school landrace PHOTOPERIOD weed and not so much because of the lights. But, yeah, sure...shop lights CAN work. Your HLG lights are MUCH better, though!

Thanks yall. I’m thinking of putting one more light in my room. Not sure if my HLG 260 is supposed to be vegging, but im gonna attach s picture of what I got for now. Yeah im gonna stick to hlg, their lights have been great so far these past few years

There are some really, REALLY nice affordable lights available, now. I personally recommend the Viparspectra XS series lights. They are highly-reviewed and very well rated and they are very inexpensive for what you get. Just go look at the XS1500 Pro or the XS2500 Pro and see what you think.

5500 lumens from 1 strip is a bit of a bold claim but I can't tell what wattage those are. But let's say the 5500lumens is true. Then you would need 16-20 of these lights per 4x4 grow space.

The XS1500 is getting really good reviews especially by Migro for the evenness of the light spread. If I was looking for a good budget light I'd try those.

It seems really expensive for a 150w LED rig? I mean it looks well designed, bit I'd want something with twice the wattage, but then I only use a single rig, if its for a suppliment it might fit in ok.

$130 Canadian Dollars for 150W light with good spread delivered the next day. Less than a dollar a watt. 2.7umol/j has different spectrum diodes. It's decent value. .is there another light you had in mind which is better value?

Don't let the 150 watts fool you. Those lights are very efficient and very bright at full power. I will say, they run a bit on the warm side and I had a small fan directed onto the driver that cooled it down some, but, for the price, they will work fine. I've got two of the XS 1500 Pros and I really like them.
