i've grown before a few times, mostly outdoors, once indoors with tons of cash in lighting and hydro. however i'm not lookin' to get into the big time now and its been a long time since doing any of that.

essentially all i want to grow now is 1 or 2 plants and am trying to do it as cheaply as possible. i'm thinking something simple like Agrosun Dayspot Grow light (150w). however i dont see different bulbs to use when flowering? what could i swap to for that?

also it doesn't say what color temperature it runs in, however i think it would be good up til flowering.

i really want to spend as little money as possible since this is such a small operation and im not even sure if im going to do it at all if prices are going to be a problem, so dont suggest to me any $200+ systems. hehe.


there is a wealth of info on this site, which is awesome. still reading around and havent found much on cheap systems for 1 or 2 plants, most are 1000watt huge setups.


any input would be appreciated!!

Get a couple of 125w nlite compact self ballasting flourescents - purple for veg, purple/red for flowering. Cost you 50-60 bucks max.

High Tech Garden Supply has an awesome 400w hps setup, with a blue spec enhanced hps bulb, which will do from start to finish, it costs 119.95.. if you cant go that route, buy as many 42watt softwhite cfl's as you can.
 
well get one 400W HPS for flowering and a bunch of cfl's with 14-21W for grow. cfl's can be cheaper on power and cheap to get by, the HPS is better for flowering since it has a bit more power to it to penetrate leave-layers and a better Watts to Lumen ratio.
 
they are very good quality, and will out perform the cfl's for veg
 
Hello. This is my first post and I thought I would toss in my .02 worth.

If you are growing on the cheap, then I would get a 400 watt switchable ballast. Anything less in wattage and you are busting your ass for meager returns out of two plants so a minimum of 400 watts is recommended.

These switchable ballasts are available for around $135.00.

Ballasts - Refelectors - Bulbs - Ballasts, System 10 - 400 Switchable Sun System 10 Ballast - Greentrees Hydroponics

Add your cord and light source/hood and bulb and rock and roll. This is the cheap part of your light set-up.

I use the Hortilux Eye bulb for best results per dollar.

MH (metal hallide) for Veg and HPS (high pressure sodium) for flowering.

that looks like a great light for me! do you know if they ship to canada? i can't find much info on shipping from their website... hmm..:-?
