Small space, 400w vs 250...

I have a small grow room, like 4.5ft tall, and 4x2... and im undecided between a 400w HPS and 250 hps... and thinking about it... i dont know of the extra current draw on the house will be worth it. I dont think the bennifits outweigh the cost of the extra 150 watts...

Any thoughts?

I think its like a whopping $60 diff between 250 and 400... but then the cost of electricity comes into play as well...

Describe "superior" buds. Like... they make buds from a 250 look like mids; or under scientific testing there's a slightly noticeable difference? Cause with living situations, and other... experiments... going on i want to really get my moneys worth. Not just a little bit denser of buds or something insignifigant like that... Quality for sure triumphs quantity...

I really couldn't tell you for sure as I have not seen a side by side comparison. Go with what you feel is right, you could always upgrade down the road if you want more.

400W for sure.

The reason is light intensity or lumens/sq. foot.
A 400W HPS will have about 50,000 Lumens. That is about 6300 lum/sq. ft, in your 8 sq. foot grow area. 6300 lum/sq.ft is very good.

If you use an 250W, you'll only get about 31,000 lumens or 3900 lum/sq. ft. That is on the lower end of required light intensity.

400W will be hot if you are going to have trouble venting heat get the 250W. If you can vent well and keep temps down then 400W is the way to go.

As sakeser stated a 400 will provide 6300 Lumens per Sq foot. The maximum lumens per foot that a plant will use is in the 7000-9000 range, after that no benifit lower than that and yields decrease proportanily.

4x2 feet of floor space is 8 square feet, if you want to use all the space a 400 is the practical size since 50w/sf is a pretty comon standard to go by and works out just right.

A 250w over 4 sq feet of floor space would be close to equal, but with slightly less penetration and slightly less lumens/watt.

If you want to use a smaller light, use a smaller space and grow smaller plants to match it.

most say i have 2-4 plants and they do. i bet you will get addicted to success and want to cram more plants to flower. the 400 would pay off imo
