isn't that just a term for the design? the bowl section is off to the side of the stem section. as apposed to an "inline".

alright ty, im new to all this stuff so i didnt know if the design had anything special about it ive never got a good look at one and was thinking about buying a piece for myself

yeah, there's nothing special about a sidecar. I prefer hammers myself, I just don't like the size of sidecars, though sidecars sometimes have stands built in that are very effective due to the greater amount of contact with the "ground" which I find really f---in useful.
