So I got into an accident, what do you guys think?

alright so today I went out, christmas eve of all nights too. And I was driving down a major road pulled off to turn around and got back on the road to make a right back onto the major road. It was alittle bit upsloped and i had a green light. All of a sudden this car comes flying from the left out of sight to right infront of me. I hit the brakes and my car slows down but i clipped the back left of his bumper. I saw no damage on the bumper accept scratches, but thats besides the point.
The guy said what do you want too do you can pay to fix it or we can call the cops or whatever. This made me think it was his fault since he was pushing to have it under the table.

My dilemma is the car was actually my fathers im not on the insurance, he was lending it to me. I have a valid license but it was his car, i dont have car insurance yet.

Whos fault is it and what should I do?

Really? What a bummer, the car was insured though? Don tyou just need to insure the car not the person?

I think that ur name must be on the insurance, or a insured person must be in the car while U drivin... But im not 100% sure

Had that not been the case would it have been the other guys fault?

depends what state ur in u should be covered and if he caused accident that doesnt mean anything i hope u got his info he responsible u have a green light his fault he needs to pay not having insurance doesnt change fault and alot of peoples policies cover when the car is lent to someone so u might be coverd depends on state and policy though

sounds like its his fault, and the last accident i got into was w/ someone in your insurance circumstance, but the car was covered by someone else so he was good

first thing i said was "you alright?"

It wasn't necessary but just for good measure i went up to his window and said you alright. I got a stare at the dashboard. Then I said "sorry this has to happen on christmas eve right. this suck man"

Then i got the it was your fault you pay me treatment.

EDIT: OH forgot to mention a police report wasn't filed. We left the scene with exchanged information.

are you over 25 yrs old ? If so your prob covered on your parents policy.. If not .. They might increase the cost of coverage .. never the less leaving the scene of an accident is a crime.. If you were sober and have a license , then you should have called the cops cause you need a police report to make an insurance claim

So heres the story. I started off going left on the main horizontal road, realized I passed were I was looking to go so I made a left into this gas station, was going to ask for directions but ended up realizing I knew where I was. Was going to turn out the normal exit but a car pulled in there so I went out on the side street exit which had a green light. Now I was going up hill as I made the right turn staying in the right lane and this guy comes out of no where. He was in my blind spot.

Now I guess this only counts as my opinion but when i saw him I hit the brakes which are nice but it still takes time to stop. I remember him speeding up, as if he was trying to nail it for the yellow or whatever. And I just barely nicked the back of his car.


The picture doesn't really do all that justice. In between the street were the accident was and the side street I pulled off of there was way less space then portayed. I had gone about 3 carlengths if even when this guy came out of nowhere.

in the cross in the rode if he missed his light and it turned red then it was his fault legally

call him and ask for more info like bank account numbers credit card info and tell him your lawyer wants this info for the case if he really wants to pursue this or you both can agree to drop it .....no police report no accident

U should tell him to fuck off. Tell him if he doesnt want his insurance rates to go through the roof that he will fuk right off and fix the bumper him self. It sounds like he is the guilty party, and he probably knows it; thats why he went on the offensive from the very start. Dont pay for anything with his name on it! This guy sounds like he is trying to get off scott fukin free. The same shit happend to me! I clipd some guy who was obviously in the wrong and to avoid insurence bullshit and cops in general we kept it under the table and i ended up paying the guy through the fucking nose!! Fuk this guy who is tryin to get payments outta u, he sounds like a schister piece of work to me. Unless it was green for him and u were turning on a red light(which is a no no unless ur sure its clear) It sounds to me like u r in the RIGHT.

I was driving uninsured two years ago and got hit by a pizza guy while I was turning into my driveway. No joke. He said I didn't use my blinker. I luckily had a friend who was an attorney and he got my car repair paid for. It was a fucking hassle though. You might not have to pay a dime.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. Except the crime part, didn't no it was a crime. I wasn't really high, from earlier in the day but the car spelled like straight up weed, my jacket did, and i had a bong in the trunk.
So all this made me not want to get cops involved.

dude, korvette is flat out wrong! The car needs to be covered, not necessarily you. Everytime I've called the cops in an accident, all they did was make things worse (DIDN'T determine fault, just wrote tickets), insurance companies do not need a police report! and its NOT considered leaving the scene of an accident b/c there were no 5-0

Robert has the right idea, have a friend make a phone call for you pretending to b your attorney and tell them y'all are preparing for court and to please have the dude fax his insurance, registration, and license info. If it is his fault you will NEVER hear from him again. (this same thing happened to my friend 1 month ago)

Now what I am about to say might invoke some karma demerits but...if you two didn't call the cops to the scene then it's your word against his...as in neither of you can prove the other was at fault. I learned this lesson the hard way by "being nice" to someone who hit me. When I called him 2 days later to settle up and get my money for repairs that bitch was like, "no that's not how the accident happened at all. Don't you remember, we were both at fault." Thats the last time I let someone off the hook at the scene without calling the cops.
