Soil or Pots?

Hey,

If I wanted to do a guerilla grow outdoors. Do you think it is best to just use pots so I can move them/control the nutrients the best. Or do you think (if the soil looks half decent enough) that I should just dig a big old hole and put the seeds right on in the earth.

What size pots/holes do you think I would need?

Thanks.

A big hole in the ground filled with well-amended soil is always going to be your best bet. The bigger the better.

Atleast a foot deep, and a foot across, both ways. Maybe more, roots get big!

If you are okay with moving around a 5 gal. bucket with a 4-7 foot plant inside and a couple pounds of wet dirt... Then yes, you could move the plant easier than if it were in the ground.. I would suggest planting in the soil.

As to the dirt... You REALLY shouldn't just put it in any old dirt, go buy some tomato compost, and mix it with some regular Miracle Grow Garden Soil. Now pour it into your 1x1 ft. hole. Fill the hole about half way with your soil, or more depending on the quality of dirt in your grow site (Better dirt = Less soil). Now fill up the rest of the hole with regular dirt from your grow spot. Mix this dirt well with a shovel, dig in and flip over the soil for couple minutes. Now water your plot before you (trans)plant your girls. I suggest buying a Seed Starter/ "Germinador" from your local garden store. 3 out of 4 plants sprouted when i used the germinador, and it can make up to 32 plants sprout at once.

Next step, get some nutes, if you're cheap get All-Purpose Miracle Grow, if you are willing to spend some money, go pick up some Fox Farms Grow Big, the stores should have it!

2-3 weeks after planting, you should add 1/3 strength nutes.

After 2-3 more weeks add 2/3 strength nutes.

Now finally add the full strength nutes.
If you are using Fox Farms, then switch to Big Bloom at first signs of budding.
Do not give your plants any nutes for the last 3 weeks before you harvest.

With miracle grow you may feed each week, I suggest feeding as less as possible, you don't want to spoil your plants with nutrients, and you don't want to give them too much either.

Don't water them every day! 2-3 times a week should be plenty depending on how well your soil mixture drains.

So if your going to use pots... (definately not suggested for a guerilla grow...) Then plant in cups, move to 1 ft deep pots after a week or so. After about 2-3 weeks, transplant from 1 ft deep pots, to a new 5 gal. bucket. USE POTTING SOIL IF YOU USE POTS!

remember to poke holes in the bottom of the bucket so the water can drain out when it needs to.

Goodluck man, I'm having my first MJ grow too!!
You should practice on some tomatoes or peppers!!!

And don't forget to buy some "Safer" brand bug killing stuff! the one with soap in it!

and some "B.T." the real name is really long, they'll know what you mean though, I'm pretty sure its an organic catipillar killer, but it kills lots of other bugs too.

spray the BT on once every 3 weeks and you can spray the bug spray soap stuff on every 5 days, but I don't even do that for my tomatoes and they get lots of little critters on them. anyways, spray them till the leaves are dripping, then just let it dry I guess.

don't spray your plants until they get a little bigger.. I'm not an expert, but you should probably about 3 weeks.

I'd advise bigger pots(thats just my opinion though). At least 15 gallons.More room to grow. This year my holes are about 30 gallons.Gonna try grow monsters.

Had about 20 gallon pots last year.I Got about 5-6 oz's of each plant(White Widow)

Hole in the ground will always outperform pots but use amended soil. I go 3' deep and fill with native soil and commercial growing compound well-mixed 50/50. Transplanted from 3.5 gallon pots initially raised under lights to 6", put outside in the pots until sexing and then ladies in the holes.

I try to look for a somewhat forested area, near a tree line, the trees take care of your nute needs(not pine trees, trees with leaves, that fall and produce wonderful mulch).

I plant directly in the ground. Pots aren't going to deter many pests... and they look way more suspicious than a pot plant. Put them together though.... only one conclusion: cultivation. Don't get caught near potted plants!
