Soil Prep Question

Hi guys, quick question.

What do i need to do to the soil prior to sowing the germinated seeds into it? Anything in particular?

E.g. with rock wool i used to pre-soak it to stabilize it before putting the germ'd seeds in.

Thanks for reading and any good answers will receive +Rep.

Peace. :bigjoint:

not much really needed to be done to soil.. maybe a good watering in before you place germed seed into it.. place your germed seed taproot down, about 1/4 or 1/2 inch below the top of the soil.. tap soil pretty well above seed so that it is planted well in the soil.
don't even place the pot under anykind of light untill you see the seedling coming through the soil, untill then just leave it in a dark place.. once you see the seedling pop out of the soil, you can place her under the lighting of your choice..
i just bought a t5 that i was using for seedlings and loved it.. i was having alot of issues with heat killing my seedlings under my hps.. the small pots that i was using were drying out too quickly under the hps, but now that i have the t5, i no longer have this problem at all.. i think that fluros work great for early seedlings, but this is just my opinion, and i am sure others would argue that such and such may work better...
i hope that this info helps you out some...

Cheers for the reply bro, +Rep as it was useful.
Why'd yu say not to place it under lights when its not sprouted yet? I spose just to ensure no light gets to the roots ?

Anyone else got any input to throw in?

depends what your using...what are you using?

some things need nothing, or you can make your own concoction of stough depending on whats accesable.

Weed likes a soil with a lot of aeration. if you have a very dense medium, like top soil, you should almost cut it in half with perlite and vermiculite like 3:1.5:1 soil, perlite, and vermiculite, respectively

so, what kind of soil do you have?

i dont put them under anykind of light till it sprouts for the same reason that i don't put my seeds under light to germ...
basically, i just get better results not placing it under any form of lighting till i see it pop the soil, and as soon as that, its under the lights...
so yeah, i just think that the light can dry out the fragile taproot if it is put under the lights before it has had a chance to develop some and get a little stonger.. but i am sure that many people just put them under a light aftter germ, and have fine results.. its just the way that i do it and it has been working for me..

I germ in jiffy peate pods /w a low humidity dome. You can get them at lowes or home depot. Put a germ heat mat under the tray. Crack top when thet begin to sprout. Take the lid off once you see green leaves. I use a light potting mix so roots get oxygen faster. The soil is a high peralite mix. The mix is peralite 45-50%, miricle grow pot soil 40-45%, 5% sand, 5% Spangum moss and some lime. Put rocks in bottoms of pots for best drainage. I normally transplante on day 4 or 5. Then I let the roots get established for a few days /w pure water (once the pots get light weight refeed). On day 13 I hit them with a small amout of liquid karma 1/2 strenght for seedlings. Then I keep a close eye and feed when needed. GL

soil+perlite is all u need id go 35% perlite, lookout for soil the says seedling soil on it , its tons better then average soil but costs more. u can have the lights on your plant whilst the sprout but its not reccomended.
