Soil Question

What is the point of using a soil with nutrients like fox farms if you are going to end up feeding 3-4 weeks in?

Would it not be cheaper to use a perlite and coco or peat mix? I mean FF is to hot for seedlings anyways so, you are going to start in something like reg. soil, coco, or peat why not keep it in the same substrate and feed when the time comes?

you're right. seedlings need "no nutes," for the first 2 weeks or so. i start feeding at around day 11 myself. it's hard to find any quality soil that has no added nutes. if i use something like ffof/happy frog etc., i use nutes still, but at a reduced rate. by the time i get to flower, i figure the majority of the added nutes are used up. i then begin feeding at a higher ppm to make up for the absence of the added feed. really not going to be that much $ involved with feed anyways, imo. take it slow when adding nutes to pre-ferted mediums. easier to add more, than to get a burn using too much, lol...

I like fox farm ocean forest. I have yet to have a seedling die from it being to hot. I guess the main reason you would buy a nutrient rich soil is that plants have all they need, and get nice and strong after a month of growing in rich soil. I like to veg plants for a month only. By the time I start adding small amounts of nutrients, I am starting to bloom.

I mix my own and like it as neutral as possible with nutes. I prefer to know exactly what my plants are getting.
