Soils on eBay?

Does anyone have any experience buying any decent soil mixes off of eBay? I am looking at fox farm's ocean forest, but that stuff is $25 for a 3 gallon bag! I mean, I know that it's one of the best if not THE best soil to get, but I at least want to know my options before I plop the money down for it. Has anyone had any good luck with any other soil?

I am staying away from Miracle Grow at all costs from now on. It's just not worth it considering how many seeds the stuff has fried.

htgsupply.com has 1.5 cubic feet(about 12 gallons) for $21, but their shipping is a bit expensive ($20) so buy like a few if you do so you can email em and ask for a discount on it since your buying a couple of them(they have given me a discount everytime ive asked, saved me literally hundreds of dollars, so im sure they will if you email them). probally get 3 bags shipped for 80-100. but thats just a guess of course based on my experiences with them.
So imo i think that would be your best bet.

check out my store website,victorygardenshydro.com, my store address is listed in my avatar. How many bags would you want shipped? I could probably just drop ship it from my supplier.

MG didn't fry the seeds. It was something else you did. You will probably have the same issues with FFOF until you figure out what you did wrong.

shipping costs as well as security concerns will always be a factor when ordering soil online. i would recommend that you try to get to a brick and motar store for your growing needs.

good luck regardless!

well i have no clue then. but, here's what i did. for seedlings, i put them in a box with a 40w cfl. temps stay at roughly 78-80 but are much lower now since its winter time. i would put them in a mix of 75% mg organic or moisture control and 25% perlite. at first, i tried 100% of each soil without added perlite and have had the same results. almost every time, the plants would start out looking pretty good. then, the lower leaves would yellow and them stems would start to turn purple. the lower leaves then start to die and crumble. sometimes the leaves all get droopy. i'm pretty sure it's not overwatering because there is plenty of drainage in the pots and i wait until the dixie cups feel light until watering again. i've tried flushing to solve whatever problem it is, but i have not been able to figure it out. i just assumed it was the soil...

if it isn't the soil, any ideas what it could be? i tried several strains and they have all failed. recently, i had kandy kush, violator kush, and l.s.d. which have all gone bad.

i just ended up buying the 1.5 cu ft bag off of ebay and got it for a little less than $40. it should be coming in next week. i might do a comparison of using ff ocean forest and mg organic side by side to see the differing results. just maybe...

It's really hard to say what it is over the internet. But droopy leaves and dying leaves do come from overwatering. That's not the only cause, but it is a big one. If it was the soil itself, the plants would start dying as soon as the leaves come out. it would not wait awhile and then just happen to the lower leaves. Are you fertilizing? Even when you using regular MG soil, I start fertilizing when the seedlings are about 1 week old. Never burnt one yet. I am using FFOF this grow, I don't realy notice any difference in the grow between the 2. FFOF does have a finer consistency than MG, but the plants like both.

I haven't used any fertilizers because I was afraid it was the fertilizers in the mg that were killing them. The plants are still alive, and I just watered them today after not watering them for almost 2 weeks (i had pretty much given up on them). Do you think there is any chance they are savable? The top leaves are still green and the bottom four are all dead pretty much.

give them some ferts. They may be lacking. Like I said, with MG soil I start using additional fertilizers at 1wk.

I have the advanced nutrients 3 step formula with grow big, big bloom, and tiger bloom. What would you suggest starting out with? (if you're familiar with those nutes)

I wouldn't ship soil in the future. 40$ a bag? Hell to the no I pay like 15$ total.
The bag itself was $20 and the shipping was like $19.

yeah what he said, are you going to buy water online too ?
Home depot carries good soil lines cheap. Pro Mix, Sunshine to name a couple.
I've heard about pro mix but I can't find it around here. The only place I know is Lowes in my town and they have mainly Miracle Grow and Sta Green.
