Spa PH Down Safe for Hydro?

Ok, I have been using PH Down Dry to adjust my tank. I am wanting to flush for awhile and that will put me low on that to make a flush tank and then make a nute tank back up. I have a spa and use a product called PH minus that contains 93.3% sodium bisulfate and 6.7 % sodium sulfate.
Is that spa PH down save for hydro?

Sodium Bisulfate may be ok to use but it is a salt......

Phosphoric Acid is battery acid and it is what Ph down sauce is made of......btw don't use acid from a battery to avoid buying.

As with Ph up (sodium bicarbonate) and other Sodium based Hydro Products you will want to avoid using to much or applying to frequently.......so, IMHO, i would go with the real stuff since Ph drifts up in an appropriately sized resevoir and it will require frequent dosing to keep in check.......

If you choose to use the Spa product (not recommended) keep an eye on things 'cause you may need to flush more often to prevent the Na from building up:mrgreen:

Thanks for the info. I will stick to the real PH down but will keep the spa stuff in mind in case of an emergency with high PH and not enough real down to fix it.
I thought since it is safe for a body to be in it would be safe for plants...but I don't drink the spa water. +rep

vinegar will bring your PH down and baking soda will bring it up. use very little. No need to buy expensive things that u may have at the house or can just get from the grocery store

I was told that using vinegar for the PH down will eventually rise where supposedly using the PH down from the hydro store would tend to not to have a rising effect. Do you have any input as to the truth in this statement? I have used vinegar vs hydro PH down consistently in soil and never seem to notice any irregular rise. I always check my runoff when watering and I did notice that the PH was always higher coming out as I attributed that to the plants bi-product (salts) from consuming the nutes. Does vinegar have a tendency to naturally lose its effectiveness at keeping the PH lower? Anyone who has any info. to this effect please fell free to chime in. Thanks!!

I have used vinegar in an aero system. It will lower the pH, however it usually only takes about 12-24 hours before it starts to rise back up. Also, keep in mind that using vinegar with any organic nute or microbe containing nute can cause a serious stink!! Trust me on this one...your Rez will smell like a pickle dipped in dog shit in just a couple of days!

I wouldn't recommend vinegar. I've used it before, but as previously stated, it is highly unstable in a grow space, especially when micro-organisms are involved.

Proper pH up/down isn't that expensive, it's one of the cheapest flowering nutrient additives you can give to your plants. ;-)

I will use vinegar and citric acid ..I will use the vinegar usually 1-2x a week as it also works as a cleaner too as it will get all nute salt buildup off in no time and does wonders for it...I also use it to clean my system in between grows and I use it for my aerocloner however it doesn't stay stable for long like pH down does ...Citric acid works great too I make a stock solution of it which if you ever make a stock solution for anything and it's going to be stored for a lil bit DO NOT EVER USE TAP WATER or your going to regret it......
