Hi Guys, looking for a cheap 240w led light for a 80cm x 80cm (31"x31") tent.
Budget around £150 ($200 ish)

Been looking at AliExpress, but i am clueless when shops are the best to use on there.
It will be used as a flower tent.
Is there any way i can get far red and uv included in the budget?

I have made a 450w diy led light using Samsung F-series gen 3 for my main 4' x 4' tent but for 240w i am presuming its probably not much more money to buy one already made.

Imo with that low a budget you should maybe detail what you would be ok with sacrificing.

Those sammie strips were amazingly cheap back in the days (and drivers aswell) and prices have gone up somewhat, especially if you have to pay shipping and import taxes.

For alibaba id look at meijiu, kingbrite or r2t hk (they may be off the bubbers on their own website, i cant remember). Some off them even have EU region stock. AliExpress seems like mostly rippoffs not sure what would be a good supplier there. But its the way to go for lowlow budget.

Hard to get uv and far red in any meaningful quantity for that budget, maybe some aliexpress diodes and soldering (but without that equipment youre again pushing over budget). Also good idea to know how much height you got.

Thanks @Rocket Soul
My height is about 6' but i scrog to try and keep them low and bushy.
Its been a few years since i built my last light so out of the loop on whats good now.

Been looking at 4 Pieces 60W Samsung LM301H Quantum led light Bars Board Dimmable Meanwell 240w Driver XLG-240-H-AB for £104 ($132)
but i don't know if the seller is dodgy lol.

Just looking at kingbrite, their P55 don't look too bad tbh.

I need to decide to either buy ready made or diy again tbh.

That choice is up to you :)

Im diyer thru and thru: prefer making something perfect for my space and taste. Cheap lights have always skimped somewhere, many times driver and electrical wiring which can be a hazard.

My typical cheapo build for a square tent goes something like this:
- 2x 3mm alu sheets for dissipation, a smidgen wider than boards and a smidgen smaller than tent size. This can usually be sourced and cut locally. Internet may not be the best place to go, check were building pros go for alu or even yellow pages or scrapp yard. It serves as plenty of dissipation for 60w boards.
-1 driver from reputable dealer. Ali drivers are prone to pack up but could maybe be sourced cheap on aliexpress; they have cheap shipping, right? Not sure myself. Xlg 240h is a cheap and flexible option for 40 something volts. Meanwell LRS series is excellent value if you can get cheap shipping but defo not for inside your tent and some times you want the heat they give off to heat your tent.
-4x cheapo boards from china. You can even find them for 10-20$ but shipping can kill you. Maybe aliexpress can sell you board only, if not try to contact them. Running boards at 60w means theyll be less likely to fail.

Alu sheet sinking means you can always drill it and upgrade with monos later easily. But can make it hard to fit in carbon filter.

DIY, the right way, will prob cost you the same as bought light by now but youll have a better safer light.

I was looking at the LRS drivers, i prefer to have the driver outside my tent so these are a viable option.
I need to source a cheaper option on the alu, over £30 for a 3m (10') length 0f 50mm (2")wide alu channel lol,
Never thought of using sheeting

I missed out on a Lumatek ats 300w pro on Ebay tonight, went for £150 but i forgot to add it to my watch list :wall:

The p55 is a fantastic light and I've been around king rite lights for a while, if you can afford that get it and you won't be dissapointed, I've been so impressed with them I'll be getting 4 1000w p55s in a couple months.

Ebay, facebook market and whatever serves as craigslist in your area can be full of good deals.

Sheeting is nice for sinking on the cheap, assuming you can get it. One issue, which can work for you if your environment is cold and against if youre fighting heat: a sheet sink throws half the heat down and the other up. U profile has more bits going up and is better at keeping heat from the tops. However some heat on the tops can be very good for a led grow.
