Spent mushroom substrate as compost?

Has anyone used or heard of using spent mushroom substrate as compost in soil? I am also a mushroom grower so I regularly have spent substrate but I usually bury it the backyard and when it rains sometimes I get little surprises.

I am brand new to growing cannabis and I have taken the organic route so I got what I needed and mixed up some soil via the coots/Cornell mix. I have been reading a ton about soil and some gears started turning and it got me wondering about my old mushroom substrate. My substrate is always just straight coco with colonized rye berries.

You could add it to a mix i reckon it wouldnt be bad some use mushroom compost to grow in as well

As long as there’s nothing pathogenic in it should be fine. Everything in the substrate is organic/compostable

I was able to find some info from Penn State that suggests that all I have to do is “weather” the substrate for 6 months and then it should be good to go. Looks like this summer I’ll be running a little experiment.
