I'm starting to be convinced that spider mites is not the problem. Google Spider Mites and click on 'images' above the results. There will be plenty of picture of what mites look like.
I have read so much about spider mites and could never understand what the big deal is.
They can be killed, the plants can be treated and they can be irradicated. The problem is it can be done over time with some elbow grease but no one ever seems to have any patience anymore.
THERE ARE NO IMMEDIATE SOLUTIONS!
Neem oil or Bang! are two types of products that work great with spider mites.
Here are some tips for spider mites:
1.
Buy Neem Oil or Bang!
2. Follow the directions PRECISELY according to the bottle
3. Spray the tops and bottoms of the leaves. Use a
pressurized spray bottle when spraying as it's difficult to spray upside down. You can't OVER spray them...but use common sense. You're going to need to do this again.
4. Clean up the room afterwards. It will be a wet mess.
Need oil suggests spraying every 2-4 weeks. The orginal bugs are now dead but unfortunately, the eggs are still viable. The idea, over time, is to keep up the treatment and kill the newly hatched eggs before more can be laid again.
Here's a great tip: DON'T SPRAY THE PLANTS WITH THE LIGHTS DIRECTLY ON THE PLANTS. If you're on 24/0 lighting then turn off the lights for a few hours until the neem oil dries.
This will keep your plants from getting burned with the water, light and heat generated from the lights.
In short, spider mites are a pest like any other plant problem but it can be treated and corrected.
