Static lightning in bubbler

I was using my gravlabs hammer bubbler to smoke green tea, and a bolt of lightning occurred in the chamber while it was filling with smoke. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone explain the science of this or tell me how to recreate it? Is it somehow bad for the bubbler or anything?
