Sup guys first grow got a defoliation question

Hello everyone new to all of this currently first grow, I've done a lollipopping of my 4 plants just before flower like 4 days ago
(Have attached before and after)

My question is how much should I defoliate this top canopy and when? Just after the flower stretch period is done in around 2-3 weeks? (Photo attached of canopy)

A safe bet is to take some of the leaves off from under the canopy, which helps open up air flow in there and lowers the RH. It's a good idea to have a fan down there too-which you might, I can't really tell what that is in the middle pic on the floor. Just don't go crazy your first time-I wouldn't remove more than 10% of the leaves in there, leave all the leaves on top of the canopy and any that get any light at all. You would do great even if you don't take off a single leaf. Good luck!

I am all for a bit of selective defoliation. However, that seems to be a little counterintuitive IMHO. What is the point in growing all of those leaves just to bin them and start from the beginning? Surely when you flip to 12/12 you want the plant to start work on flowering, not replacing all the leaves?

AFAIK, basic school science, a plant needs leaves in order to photosynthesize. So without any leaves that isn't going to happen until it grows all the leaves back.

Slows the growth for limited space growing. I agree with everything you said.
 
For some reason I forgot to take pictures, but they were severely defoliated and pruned. Only the top couple of nodes survived the onslaught. I might need to prune a little more because they are stretching hard and getting a little overgrown.
 
I trim lower leaves right along while LST growing, or thinking of that as defoliating but it is, just more spread. I have also done quite radically defoliating at around 20 days. That sure doesn’t hurt.

Uh, that's why this guy does this. He gets some donkey dicks. But he's got lights on top of lights too.
