I was wandering the local hydro store looking for my new 1k watter bulb and ballast. I ended up getting the generic ballast with a SupberBlue bulb($160 for the bulb at 4hydroponics.com) by hortilux. It is so fucking awesome. It has a MH and a HPS Filaments, both burning at once, all in one bulb. Anyone else use these hybrid bulbs yet, it looks pretty cool too.

hmmm, i just pulled a round off a new grow room using the super blue. my buds were full of leaf and not much bud in there... but i think it may have to do with room and reservoir water temps... i hope!

Since it is only 600hps + 400mh, do i need to place it like a 600, or do i use it as i would a 1000hps i would like to really light up an 8 x 8 area(8 2x4 trays) and the guy at the growshop thinks this bulb is capable of that, but i was wondering what your experience with this bulb is. What kind of tan do you get from it, the bulb comes with a warning about UV exposure8-)

I use my dual 400 blues at 12"; 18"+ = major stretch. Blue travels farther than red, so having the HPS in there isn't going to change much.

About that UV warning - it's just saying don't scratch/crack the outer glass, right? Or are they warning about active uv out of the box? Which means the outer glass is better than the hort blue's.

The growshop man said if exposed for not too long of a time i could get a sundburn, over time that would welcome skin cancer
