T5 or Metal halide/HPS

so i was gonna buy 2 T5 fixtures. having one growing vegging plants one doing flowering.

or i was gonna buy a system and use hps light for vegging and metal halide for flowering or other way around ha i dont remember but if i did that it would be only one group of plants.

about same cost which would be most efficent. Thanks guys (and gals):joint:

I tried a 432w T5 HO for vegging over the last 3 months. I dont like it. Just reinstalled the 1000w mh in the veg room, its good to have real light there again. I keep the light about 30" above the plants and they start under the 1000w at about 10 days old from seed.

I didnt like the flouro because it didnt cover the same amount of space as easily, was very very warm all the time, and the plants growth wasnt anything in comparison to the 1000w mh. Still use the 1000w hps for flowering of course.

Why veg with flouro? If you can get a mh/hps veg with mh, flower with both. Im 1 month into flowering using a MH all the way through and shes beautiful. If you want to be vegging and flowering at the same time, use MH for veg and hps for your flowering buds.

one problem i cant use both. i would only have one ballast and a MH conversion bulb to fit my HPS ballast. so i think ill just go with mh hps any more help though???

thanks inthebuilding. thats what i was thinking. anyone know how far to keep the lights away or any more advice to help would be appreciated. thanks

Nobody can tell you how many plants you can grow with a 1000w lamp. SOG? Ebb & Flow? Table? Any legal limitations to worry about? Way too many variables. I grow in buckets. In these buckets, I like 9 plants under a 1000w lamp, with a 1000w veg time of 2 weeks. The plants will finish at about 40" tall and provide 4oz per plant. No CO2, just good fresh air.

Overall, the goal is an even green canopy. Keep the lights as close as you can without making the tops of the plant hot.

id prob be growing with soil in 5 gallon buckets and maybe some clones how big of an area will i need you think. for 9 plants. and what should i use for siding

Cram them together, you can get all 9 into a square and blast them with a 1000 HPS. It'll cover a 4'x4' area nicely. If you grow them to just the right size before you go 12/12, you should be able to break 1.5 lbs no problem.

is there anything else i can use. that would be great but i might have a small shed i can use. is there a place that sells reflective like siding pieces? and could someone tell me about how many fans to put on the lights?
