Test Upgrade to Waterfarm.

From what I understand, flooming the res (forcing air down the view/drain tube) is the most effective way of getting the highest possible amount of dissolved oxygen. Here's a good read on it.
This is just the airstones vs waterwalls debate. That whole post is talking about eliminating air pumps in favor of surface agitation. Its the same reason I use sprayers and @Airwalker16 uses waterfalls. What they are talking about is pumping water up out of it to make a pond fountain like effect. If I were to route my sprayers down into the water and pointed them up, thats flooming from what ive seen. Ive seen some pretty cool setups with this that use a water pump with a venturi to draw air down into the drain to make a jacuzzi jet effect. Is it more effective than what most of us are already using, probably not on our scale.

My response was referring to upgrading the performance of a waterfarm. I don't think that a waterfarm res is something that's well suited to be modified with waterfalls or sprayers. My sharing the link was to give the OP a better explanation of the benefits of flooming. What I got from the info in the link was that a literal fountain effect isn't needed as long as the entire surface area of the res is agitated by the incoming air.

Not saying you're wrong, just adding to the convo on it. Sorry if it sounded like I was saying otherwise.
And yeah my understanding is you just need to get the rolling boiling effect going.

@Just Be how's the grow coming in the WF? i topped 2 of mine (3rd seems to be a runt after being the best seedling) and about to flip this week.
It's going great, thanks. Today's day 37. Flowering's begun and she's been LST'd (and defoliated) pretty extensively. I deleted the journal that I had going here on RIU and opted to keep the one at the AFN going (linked here) ..I felt kind of like a spam-monger and figured why not just document the autoflower on the AFN and when it comes time to do a photoperiod, I'll journal it here.

That sucks to hear that your best seedling turned runt. It's also too bad that you don't document your grows but I totally respect your decision not to do so. I'll just have to use my already over-active imagination. Anyway, here's what she looked like this morning.

I had been wondering.
Good looking plant, those branches are super thick for how old it is. The young skywalker og plants I have going right now are looking like theyre going to be similar.

Yeah, she's amazingly flexible. Areas that get tied down in the morning can be pulled down even tighter in the evening. I'm really surprised that I haven't snapped anything.

New to Waterfarm's here and left mine stock opting only to add additional holes at the bottom of the media bucket. I have a week old seedling rn and am on the fence about an dual outlet pump and airstone added. I'm more or less with @Just Be on this discussion but I've always valued your input on this forum @rkymtnman and was wondering if you've ever seen or conducted a side by side comparison of w, w/o an airstone. Also, what's the idea behind the dual rings here @Ynotg ?

in theory, the water dripping from the top res to the bottom res should provide enough DO. it's a great design right out of the box.

but more DO is always better IMO. the cost of the dual outlet/stone/tubing is hardly anything for the upgrade. and now you have a spare pump on hand.

i just flipped to 12/12 2 days ago. my plants are only about 12 to 16" tall and the roots have already filled up the entire bottom res. my stones are no longer at the bottom, they are somewhere in the middle of the root mass. lol. hard to argue with that.

any other questions, just tag me and i'll try to help if you need it! you will love the WF.

Thanks guys
@Just Be when she's more than a runt and things start getting interesting, I'll absolutely tag you in the journal I start.
@rkymtnman I feel you on the cost being small potatoes. My apprehension stems from just wanting less (not at all an objective approach, I know). We'll see
