The genetic wellness of michigan, how can we improve it?

When i first started growing i got bad clone after bad clone. i managed 1 strain that kept my head above water somehow but barely. i still to this day believe a few diff growers gave me clones of losing phenos just to get them out of the room. this is SO FUCKING DISRESPECTFUL if you don't explain that its not the winning pheno. in 2 main cases I've had people tell me how bomb the cut i was getting was when in reality it was terrible.

now like i said i have my suspicions but i also think a lot of people might not be able to go find that winning cut in a pack of seeds and a lot of the times are just recycling cuts someone else handed them. some people buy pick and mix too and think their 1 bean is ready to be passed around and sell clones when they have ZERO comparison. i heard of an old timer who bought 1 bean of 100 strains off attitude right when medical hit. this guy and his crew were obsessed with selling clones. i can only imagine who what when or where these cuts ended up but I'm sure a lot of people are scratching their heads.

but like i said I've been burned by like 10 strains that were just terrible that end up getting ran 4-5 times just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. this is extremely costly and wasteful.

NOW i have several winning phenos that are mine alone. my HGK has begun to spread as with Wyatt purp but i have a few more extreme winners. even the ones I've gotten out there are out there in such limited capacity i doubt they are going to get anywhere beyond who has it now unless i pass a lot more out.

I've talked about the wyatt purp deal and wanting to get that out there. but I've also got a bay dream pheno that looks like its gonna be out of this world. My holy grail kush cut needs to get around also. that one is insanely good. first time around i had a plant that was hanging on for dear life and she still yielded 8oz in a small 5 gallon squat pot of the best meds I've ever grown.

i just put a pack of 303 seeds "meltdown" into the water today. this is a CBD rich Semi THC rich blueberry X bubblegum X Z7 cross that sounds amazing. once i dig the winners out of that one id be happy to get these out there as well.

i guess idk where to go from here. and mods please don't delete this I'm not looking to sell clones at all and i don't really want people to PM me looking for cuts but instead id like to get with some of the people on here who I've seen get cuts into the hands of the needy before. their are a couple of you on here that seem to really have a good network going. id love to gift you guys some cuts just to spread around

basically if you have any ideas on where i could contact someone who has a clone bank maybe thats cheap. i don't want any of my cuts selling for more then $20 if possible. i understand a lot of times its hard to give cuts due to numbers but that is what id really prefer.

these are A+++ genetics that will just make so many more people so much happier if we can get them spread around. I'm sure a lot of you have some serious cuts too that you wouldn't mind making some peoples lives with. :)

and I'm not just talking you every day stuff. those elite elite's that you shouldn't even be passing out if you were trying to maximize profit. the ones that people will love forever. the ones that will open some people up to a whole new level of MJ. a lot of people have never ever grown elite genetics and i know once i got my hands on a real elite it INVIGORATED me so much to become the best grower i could be.

it seems when you have genetics that you care for so deeply and just love you tend to take care of your plants better. i know i do. if I'm really really excited for one to be done chances are that plant won't even have a spot of yellow on it when i start flushing.

good genes excite people to grow better.

i know this sounds counter productive but I've had to resort to mids myself several times this year cause i was between and no one i knew had anything better. it makes me sad. i got an apocalypse shatter stash now so no more of that nonsense but i still have recent memories of smoking some wood..... NO MORE WOOD FOLKS. we need to raise MI up.

improve the pool here so no one can come in and compete with what we got going on. more growers doing well is very good for the economy and will improve us in more ways then 1.

any ideas or suggestions would be great guys and gals thanks.

PS i promis i wont do any business or anything mods we are just discussing how to improve MI gene pool here :)

I hear you on trying to find good clones, almost everything I have got from others either isn't that great and/or isn't the real deal. I thought I got some sour grapes and blue dream from a guy but neither really were that great. I got a really good Kish, Chocolate Rain, a super heavy yielding MK Ultra, and a high cbd Tora Bora. All were either grown by seed from me or some friends of mine. Everything else I have or have gotten since I have been in Michigan (2 yrs) has not really been a keeper in my book. I had a few keepers before I moved but I didn't bring them with me thinking in a med state I could find better. Now I know there are great strains here and I just need to network more but so far when I have made the time I just end up with stuff people want to get rid of or they are just not up to par.

i have both ups and downs. I stay with the well known growers locally, a member here, and havent had much problems. I have grown my own strain for the past 3 years, Konway Kartel, and this winter will be growing out the 4 gen that had some AK added last winter. SHould be interesting. My words would be if you find a good strain keep it alive and growing, use it as your mother and blanket the area with clones.

Personally I have not flowered here in years. Between my holdings and phenohunts I worry about crossing some bullshit law and then having to deal with government harassment, of which I refuse to tolerate based on principles. Not many are willing to play the game this way, but the experience has been more fulfilling than I had ever imagined. Every grower is as different as their growing conditions. I first try to ascertain what meds impress and start there keeping tabs on the pros and cons of the genetics I have provided throughout the run. All of my holding are beyond keepers, but not everyone will impress in every garden. I believe it takes a village to raise our game here and I'm doing my part :bigjoint:

I have paid for clones twice, and neither time ended well.

I will stick to pheno hunting through seeds. I actually enjoy seeing and trying the different variances in seed packs and finding a keeper or two or none.

picking through seeds is by far the best way to find a winner that fits you.

just because my clones are winners in MY room doesn't mean they will be in YOURS.

or the ones i consider losers might THRIVE under someone else's conditions.

Im more talkin for that ole Vietnam vet that just grows the 24 for him and his wife.... you know the guy. usually got some strain from 1997 that looks like its been getting cloned every 5 weeks since then lol

these are the people that really need our help.

all the newbies too. they come into this not even knowing that seeds can give you different plants. or that clones could be bad.

i want people to behave like johnny appleseed here and get these bad boys out there. like i said i understand getting some small donations to cover numbers but maybe with ever 2 donations make sure to give one away?

basically i have a feeling if everyone grows some elite quality buds the ones who distinguish themselves as real good growers will probably grow Cup winning buds. basically i wanna raise the roof on our growing by raising the floor.

that make sense? i know if all the half ass growers i know are doing as good as me I'm gonna pick up the pace a little and not get so lazy. we in michigan like to get comfortable i think.

IDK it all is very pipe dreamy i get this but i just think as a whole its our responsibility to bring this state up. make it a better experience for all.

give a man some elite bud and make his day, Give a man an elite clone and make his entire families year!

What about when you want the actual genetics (clone only) used by the pollen chucker you have currently chosen to patronize? Have you ever seen, grown or tried meds from something like CaliO? Everyone is talking about Tangie these days, good luck finding those beans. If you want the real deal you can find it right here and all around Michigan. You just have to ask and deal with all my bugs and sickness :bigjoint: I'm not trying to sell you anything brother, many here have her in their gardens as she has been freely shared by myself and others with the expressed consent of her rightful owner: Aerick77

I feel ya HGK. You bring up a great point about people that don't have the time or space to pheno hunt. They need good genetics too, and a clone is the quickest/best way to accomplish that. I'm only throwing my personal experience out there. I battled spider mites for almost a year after bringing clones in to my garden. I vowed never to do that again, and broke that vow because I was in immediate need of a specific type plant for a very sick patient. That didn't end so well either.

Like I said though, I actually enjoy sorting through phenos in a seed pack. It's like waiting for christmas morning when harvest day is getting close. :-)

My response was for op. I didn't get the impression at all from your first post that you were trying to sell me something.

Just sharing my somewhat frustrating experience with clones thus far.

ya clones are a nightmare no doubt about that. with Wipeout tho i don't see why we shouldn't be able to get some going around without mites in em. Wipeout is a michigan miteicide also called epic leaf shield (not sure which one is the name they settled on you will find one or another on the shelf all over MI.

I guess if we wanted to do this right it will take a lot of honesty. as long as people know to treat clones (like you always should) when they get them and know what to treat with i think it would be ok.

i myself am battling gnats. i would treat the shit out of any clones i pass but i still can't make promises. just gotta let everyone know long before they come in contact with them that there might be a chance of bugs.

even if my garden is 100% clean whenever i pass out clones i make sure to say "I've had spider mites, broad mites, and gnats in the past. right now i don't see any out in the open but that doesn't mean some bastard isn't hiding in a hole somewhere plotting a vendetta plantocalypse to get me back for killing all his buddies. I've had them before they could still be there. i would recommend treating at least a few times."

the spread of diseases is something else we need to battle too but i think its as easy as making sure everyone is informed on the right stuff to use and when.

Are you still battling the fungus gnats? If so give BTI granules (aka mosquito dunks) a try. You can pick them up at any Lowes/Home Depot. Just sprinkle a layer on your soil, water them in, and that's it. It's a beneficial microbe that the gnat larvae eat .... and then die.

Place some sticky traps on the surface of your soil to catch the adult gnats hopping around, and you should be gnat free within a week or so.

Yep, that's it. Make sure to get the sticky traps too for the adults or else they will lay more eggs and you'll be starting all over again.

LoL Yeah when some show up to parties they bring chips, dip, flowers, oils, ect ... When I show up I bring trays of life to pass ;)

That said, I had hoped to drop by the Garden Club this weekend and had actually planned to bring these along as a gift :weed: I am a member there, but not a business partner.

Once I get this lady finished to ensure success, she will become my new Karma Bitch pick pheno. My hopes are that she is the "Frost Giant" :bigjoint:

Out of curiosity theman, are you basically aquiring genetics, sorting through them, handing them out to others and then getting feedback on which phenos are winners and which ones you are tossing? You made a comment earlier about not flowering them so I'm only assuming this....

o snap you made those. my bad on the dickhead comment i just assumed they CAME from A2 with the RD tags on the cups. Great job man!

For people who want to respect their #'s it's real hard to do any kind of real hunts.
Even when starting with the best breeders gear out there you have run a lot more then
one pack to find what you are looking for usually.

It helps to have low standards but, I think 5 packs to one keeper should be expected.
I know what it feels like when you spend a lot of time, money, risk, energy and space and
come up empty handed. I know am nervous as hell right now.
