The POWER of HPS vs. Fluoro grow

The girls sprouted the 1st of November. They are in FFOF, w/FF nutes. I had the 6 of them under a 4 foot, 8 bulb (6500k bulbs) fluoro setup from that point forward. 3 of the girls are WW the other 3 are BlackJack.

From November 1 until until December 19 I continued to veg them with lots of TLC, the lights about 1" from their tops. They were very bushy/healthy, very strong & solid looking.

On December 19 these were their heights:

#1 - 14"; #2 - 11"; #3 - 9.5"; #4-11.5"; #5- 8" (she had a ROUGH start); #6- 11.75

The night I made the above measurements I removed the fluoros and installed a sweet 600 watt HPS system w/AiroFlow (air cooled) reflector as I get closer to flowering. All bought from HTCsupply (no I don't work for them, I just buy from them and cannot speak more highly of their service and prices).

Yesterday morning (12/23) I measured them again. In what was basically 2.5 days they grew to these NEW heights:
#1 - 17.5"; #2 - 13.5"; #3 - 10.75"; #4-14"; #5- 10.75"; #6- 15.25

To make it a little clearer:

OLD HEIGHT: #1 - 14"; #2 - 11"; #3 - 9.5"; #4 -11.5"; #5- 8"; #6- 11.75

NEW HEIGHT: #1 - 17.5"; #2 - 13.5"; #3 - 10.75"; #4-14"; #5- 10.75"; #6- 15.25

So in just about 2.5 days they grew anywhere ABOUT 15-30% after changing the lighting to HPS. Obviously the rate of growth is much more than with the fluoro's.

The HPS light is further than I would have liked from their tops since I could not put the light too close since the cooling is not yet hooked up.

I'm going to veg them for about another week or two.

What I am going to do now is get the cooling going, move the HPS closer to the tops and then take the fluoro light and turn it on its side and blast the sides of the girls with the fluoro while the HPS is coming from the top simultaneously. Can't wait to see what that does! Wonder if I can give them TOO much light? Some say yes, others say no.

Nothing here is meant to knock the fluoro lights, they have distinct advantages, I'd do it this way again, the girls vegged REAL bushy.

Nice dude. Good info....but its still all personal opinion right?

Current box(its a cheap DIY) cant handle HPS so i had no choice to go with CFL. its cheaper to run too me thinks =)

But you definitely Got me thinking on HPS. Thank you =)

Let us know how that goes.
