they need a section that has nothing but the locked threads in it

I love reading the locked threads, its funny to see how they turn for the worse. to get locked on this site takes some crazy shit since they are pretty lax with their censorship around here.

Well unless its a video of your mom getting pounded by 3 black guys and a midgit, then its simple. Anyway, that is my contribution for the day

I thought this was going to be a BS thread. We have had BS threads by the dozen, foisted upon us by sock puppets who simply like the sound of their own noise. However I believe you have a point. I suspect that is a contributing factor to why I am no longer a mod.

It would be instructive if posts that marginally or arguably step over the edge of TOS were left as an example, ideally with a final post by a mod detailing where and what the excursion is. I believe it would make the site easier to understand.

I don't think it will do anything for or about our current infestation of suck puppets.

~edit~ I don't think closed threads are the Good Stuff, though. The Good Stuff are fun threads that get spirited and keep testing the frontiers, but manage to stay active. The best stuff (imo) is when a suck puppet excretes a particularly tasty bit of "full retard" in plain view, and then the local predators sweep on in for a game of cat and wolves. Muy muy butthurt has been lovingly harvested and barbecued by yours truly and the other game wardens of Toke&Talk. We're a valuable part of the local ecology. We keep the population healthy and at a controlled size.

I believe that a lighter hand with deleting posts and threads would serve a valuable function: we could see just when some actual trolls launched a particularly vicious attack on a fellow site member or members. Some of the worst actors here have repeatedly had their performances deleted, sanitized. This makes it impossible for those of us who witnessed the event to prove it happened, and it allows the perpetrators to deny their action and become palpably righteous in their own defense. I think breaking that cycle would be an adjustment at first but of great and lasting benefit once it has survived the sort of testing bored, intelligent predators like the wardens and the hyenas are bound to perform.

Shit this became a screed. good morning RIU and provisional welcome to our newest alphanumeric. (whispers) whose sock are you

More consistency wou ld be helpful. Apparently some forums allow behavior that is not allowed in other forums.
I understand how new users could see what goes on in the politics section, then get turtled for using the same type of language in a grow forum.
Maybe forums should be rated like movies so people know what to expect. I've even seen new mods stumble into the politics section and start scolding people for name calling. As you can imagine, that didn't go well. (But it was definitely funny.)

I stay out of politics because I like my butthole intact.

Barely 6 am and you were firing on all cylinders, a bit anal but I agree and could go just a tad further, what's worse is the members who didn't cross the line but fought the vermin are painted as problems because their posts stay up while the vermin is sanitized. Leave it all unless it has a physical address is my opinion. But so what, meh.

Yes. It seems like that would actually be consistent with our all being 18+ ... notional adults. The apparent double standard places some of our most engaged and compassionate members into a bind whenever they speak up about instances of online cruelty.

I just bristle against the creation of non falsifiable arguments! We don't have to help regression to the mean it happens all on it's own.

Good points in this thread. However, there is one closed thread in which the mods really didn't have the stomach to sift through in it's entirety. The result is that the majority of juicy stuff is still there, if not the actual posts, in the replies. It is the longest, worst thread in RIU history, and should take you many months to read - https://www.rollitup.org/t/is-the-world-flat-the-flatlanders-theory.895220/

We begged the mods to delete it, but they don't like being told what to do. So, in an ironic twist of fate, the mods became the trolls by letting it devolve into the juggernaut shit fest it is. Kudos to them for not deleting it, because if ever a thread should have been deleted, this is the one. Enjoy!
