Thinking about a bedroom grow have questions

ok so I'm thinking about a bedroom grow im gonna say the bedroom is about 12x12 just for examples with the lighting this has probably already been answered but in so many different post this place is full of knowledge! Ok so I have a 12x12 bedroom in one post it says that 2500-3000 lumens a square foot so at about 2700 lumens a square foot I would need 388,800 lumens. So If I bought a sun master 1000 watt bulbs that emit 150,000 lumens I would only need 3 and that would provide extra light correct? Do you think thats overdoing it or do you think I would need more ? I have been told so many different things like one 1000 watt light will cover a whole 12x12 room and i though this cant be right or you can never have enough light and you will need about 6 or more of these lol I thought that might be way to much.

I would also like to know about how far apart you would keep the pots from each other to give the plant the room it needs to grow im thinking about using 3 gallon buckets

Please remember I am a newbie and still have alot to learn about this Im just trying to figure out what the cost would be for this type of set up

2 1000w would be good for a 12x12 room if you plan on filling the whole room with plants but i think 2 600w on light movers with room for you to walk down the middle would be more practical

Hello there,

I would use a Hortilux eye 1000 watt hps setup with either a light mover(6 foot track) or one of them circular light movers with this bulb/s.

Im sure the sun master is a good bulb, But most professional growers will choose an Eye Hortilux 1000 hps over one of them. The Hortilux is all Ive ever ran for the last decade, and man, it works!!!

I like to keep the pots about a foot away from the others, But The plants usually grow into the recessed space before you know it. The further there apart, the better.


Ummm, I would advise you growing out of 5 gallon planters instead of the 3 gallon size. Cannabis roots Love the room :)


You will have to get an carbon air scrubber to vent the smell out of that room. A good company is *CanFan*

whoa you guys are amazing I barely made it to the garage and my phone was tellin me I had mail! ok So I have also seen this set up where you can change the bulbs from mh to hps and the balast automatically adjust if im saying this right. would it be benificial to start off the seedlings under a metal halide and continue into the veg stage with this set up so I can just switch bulbs to hps when flowering time comes or should I start off in flouros with seeds then go metal halide and then go to hps Im trying to watch a budget also but I would like to grow some pretty descent stuff with nice yeilds. How many plants do you think I could put in a 12x12 room safely with two lights like that and room for me to move around and work ? I plan on also starting up another room the same size somewhat after a bit so I could have a perpetual grow scenario also

Speedy Gonzales here! :)

IMHO, I wouldnt worry so much about changing out bulbs(MH TO HPS).

Get a Hortilux 1000 hps, or the other brand and use for veg and flower.
Will work like a CHAMP!

As far as the clones are concerned. Running t5 flo's might be what your after. Or you could grow out the clones/seeds with your hps, but keep them plants em far away from that 1000 watt bulb!!! Then again...Be safe, use the floro's when your plants are first starting out.

If it was my grow space, Id have 2 light movers with 2 6 foot tracks on the ceiling of each side of the room with vertizontal reflectors. That way you could easily water your plants from the middle of your room.

You could probably grow out 6 huge plants per 1000 watt lamp, so If you had 2 light mover's and bulbs.. Your yield could be as much as 2-2 1/2 lbs in soil per grow(total weight dry-12 plants). If you were growing in hydro.. You could almost double your yield if your experienced.

Ok so start off seeds and clones with the t5 flouro's then when they get alittle bigger switch to hps and keep them a good distance away for a while.I have seen alot of people are saying fox farm soils are the best along with an ocean one but when I was looking around they looked quite expensive especially if I were to do 5 gallon buckets lol are there any others I should look at ? and how many plants do you think i could put in that room with 5 gallon buckets and room to do work ?

Ok sorry about the last question about how many plants I must have not read the bottom of your post you say about 12 plants with two lights so what if I put 24 plants in one room with 4 lights would that be ok with the lighting? I know it would get warm in the room and I would need to keep it cooled down and the smell to a minimum lol

I think your pushing it with 24 plants in one room.

The smell will definetely knock you and your neighbors out unless you have a badboy carbon air scrubber.

Probably 2 of them with that many plants. I would stick with doing 12 at a time. Will be more manageable.

Also, get a very low odor strain,

Such as Northern Lights #5.

lol im not to worried about the smell I was talkin to someone that has 34 plants in one room and they said they have a big filter and cant smell it outside at all I would definitely get one of those atleast hahaha I'm thinkin about opening up a dispensary but not to sure yet I dont know all of the cost involved

but on the other hand they arent flowering yet hahahahaha i should take a trip down there to see how bad it really is before I go
