and is it bad?? It is the only one I found. Leaves don't seem to be harmed, but it wasn't there long. I think the straight on photo is by far the creepiest.

Yup looks like a cicada shell to me. Ever see a live one? They are huge and are one of the ugliest insects I've ever seen and have a loud ear piercing call. Sometimes they are mistakenly referred to as locusts. Locusts are a similar insect native to the Middle East and Africa. I found about 5 or 6 of the emply shells clinging to my leaves already this year with no apparant damage. They usually only emerge every 13 or 17 years in large numbers, but every once in awhile there will be a small hatching. Last big outbreak where I live was in the summer of 2004 I believe. Maybe some of you can remember, they were everywhere. I think this might be one of the small years. I know that can wreak havoc on certain species of plants, but I'm not sure about cannabis.

if it was a hollow shell it looks like it could be a cicada. Or it could be just a cacoon. did it have wings?

Ditto on the moth. Probably harmless. Most likely resting on your plant. Many moths are plant specific as to what they like to eat.

Yes it is a moth. Unless you see those fuckers all over your babies,or find a crysalis of one on a plant, you should be fine. A sign that they've made a home out of your plant is seeing more than a few more often than occassionally, and also finding them at earlier stages in life like larvae form or eggs etc etc. I've never had problems with moths where I live.
